Finishing Up in Elsa’s Room

March 21, 2012

I’ve taken the last week or so to put some finishing touches on Elsa’s bedroom. At the time of my last post I had yet to paint the edges of the doors or finish painting the radiator. I thought I’d take a quick minute to share the results! Do you know how toward the end of a painting project you are just SO over painting and the looming clean up is just kinda hanging over you all ominous and heavy like? Then, just about when you are ready to call it, you look in your paint can and it seems that there just MIGHT be enough paint to finish up that one thing that you thought you might have to save for “round 2″ so you go for it but then it turns out that you are one radiator section short on paint? You know that feeling, right? Well, that’s just what happened to me. I had painted all the windows, doors and moulding. I was just about to start my clean up when that off white-ish looking radiator was just daring me to test the remaining amount of paint in my can. I went for it and came SO [...]

Elsa’s Updated Bedroom

Us Ripplinger’s moved into our house close to a year-and-a-half ago. My plan for our new place was to take care of all the common areas first. You know, the ones that company would use the most and see the most and judge us by. Mission accomplished, we have done just that. However, it has become insanely obvious to me that I have been neglectful of the rest of my home. Most importantly, Elsa’s bedroom. Ugh, sorry Sweetie! You see, when we moved into our new place it was in a whirlwind to remove any representation of the previous inhabitants, whom had been here for 90+ years, and with intention to immediately put our finger print on our new space. This led to hasty paint color selections and half-assed attempts to make the place ‘ours’. I immediately painted Elsa’s bedroom the same color that I had painted her nursery at the old place, Balmy Seas (Behr 490C-3), and then stopped. There it sat, a pretty color teal with weird brown moulding and a mattress on the floor. A few weeks ago I walked into her room and thought to myself, “Eff, Nicole, this bedroom sucks!” Then I got out a [...]

Cool Things!

I grew up in North Central Minnesota, surrounded by land and trees and lakes. We had the luxury of space and plenty of room for gardening of any type be it of the flower or vegetable variety. Both my mother and grandmother kept beautiful sprawling flower gardens while I was growing up. I only hope that one day I will have just as impressive of a garden as they did. Now that I have put down roots in Minneapolis, space for a large garden is a bit difficult to come by. Thankfully the folks over at Fire Escape Farms have got things figured out for us urban-green thumbs. There is a great section with lovely vertical garden planters suitable for flowers or veggies. Check out their selection of reference books and pretty little hand tools too! Our friend Brian turned 30 years old a few weeks ago! This is a milestone that lends itself to massive amounts of celebrating and serves as a good excuse to do crazy shit like jump out of an airplane. An even better way to celebrate is to jump out of an airplane and bring 4 of your buddies with you! One sunny Sunday morning [...]

A few weeks ago we were contacted by children’s clothing company Tea and asked to review their clothing. Tea is a cool little company located in San Francisco, CA. Their globally inspired designs make for comfy and modern clothes for our little dudes and dudettes! They aspire to be global citizens and take great pride in giving back to their community. They have created a line of t-shirts called “little citizens of the world” in which they donate all their proceeds to Global Fund for Children. Not only that their clothing is made of high quality natural fabrics and feels awesome to the touch. Scoops and I got our families together last weekend for some backyard kid fort fun and a few refreshing adult summer beverages. We had the kiddos try on their new duds while exploring and playing in the backyard. It’s amazing to learn how much magic a few sheets and some clothes pins hold. These kids had so much fun playing in an impromptu backyard fort. Finn’s Long Sleeve Purity Tee and Elsa’s Flor Del Mar Pocket Dress, both made of a lovely pima cotton, easily kept up with these two crazy kiddos! Snack Break! Royal the [...]
