The price is a little steep I know, but look how pretty. I was able to find my rug for more than half off what these beauties are going for so keep your eyes peeled if you’re on the look out. They are so eye catching, I don’t tire of perusing Etsy for them. In other news, “Stop Snowing, Snow!”

Hanging Outdoor Party Lights

April 9, 2013
Installing Outdoor Globe Lights

Over the winter, my old man and I did something pretty dumb. Let me start by saying we had really good intentions. We wanted to make a new annual Allen Christmas tradish and burn down our Christmas tree the day after New Year’s day, duh. It sounded like a cool and fun idea, and it made for a good excuse to drink some brews and have a winter fire in the backyard. I tried to think responsibly and logically about this; I knew the Christmas tree was dry, so I figured I’d cut it into quarters, and we could burn it in sections to minimize the blaze. That sounds reasonable to me. Unfortunately, even quartered dried-up pine trees like to burn fast and huge no matter what, like in a almost burn your house down sort of way. See below: We were lucky that we didn’t burn the house down. Jeff was super manly and grabbed the burning tree and threw it out into the middle of the yard before any major damage was done. We did however lose a few strings of our beloved party lights. They were melting the second that tree caught fire. The lights have sat [...]

Etsy Finds : Coral Accessories

1 Pink 1947 Motorola Radio from Robs Antique Radios – $129.00 + $20.00 (for shipping) 2 Vintage Avon Coral Powder Container from Maria’s Farmhouse – $15.00 + $6.00 (for shipping) 3 Shabby Chic Flat Sheet with Coral Flowers from Junque Du Jour – $13.95 + $5.95 (for shipping) 4 Vintage Redwing Coral/Salmon Planter from Papyrus Heart – $35.00 + $22.00 (U.S.) (for shipping) Yo dudes! So, I’ve been a little into this coral color lately, maybe you’ve been diggin’ it too? Did you see my post from earlier this week about adding vintage coral accents to a neutral bedroom? I thought I’d go ahead and do a little pretend etsy shopping, and show you some of the items I’d be into picking up if I needed to get my coral fix on. That radio is pretty great isn’t it?? The etsy shop selling it doesn’t have a clue how to color balance a photo, (biggest etsy pet peeve of all) but I think in real life it would be awesome, and probably reads a lot more coral than the hot pink as their photos show. Think about it… Can you guess which one of these items is my fav? Have [...]

My new Cross Lake plate that I posted about yesterday was my inspiration for this post today. Prior to Meredith asking where I got my plates, I was planning on sharing with you my little secret. I find all my vintage plates on Etsy. My first plate (a Minnesota Sesquicentennial plate) was inherited from my great grandma and that’s what gave my little collection momentum. I mean, I couldn’t just have one lonely plate hanging on the wall, it needed plate friends. Great Gma was a plate collector too, and had billions of them, it was my duty to keep the fam tradish alive.

Notebooks!

February 11, 2013
notebook

Notebooks have become a part of my life in a major way. I live with a notebook, I carry it around the house from room-to-room and if it’s not nearby I get panicky. Maybe it’s because I’ve entered the stage of life where so much is going on that I can’t keep anything straight. If I have an idea I need to write it down before it passes, because it will pass. I also write lists, lots and lots of lists. From blog ideas, to shopping lists, to sketches, to floor plans, and website redesigns. I’m tearing through notebooks like nobody’s business and I need something new. I would love to get a notebook with tons of pages that would take me forever to fill. Most importantly I want it to feel good, like a soft covered book that you can bend in half, or a record with a really nice matte sleeve. If it doesn’t feel good, I won’t use it. I always love a good moleskine, and am considering getting another “batch” of them, but I’d also like to branch out and try something new. Anyone out there have a unhealthy relationship with their notebook too? Do you [...]
