Attic Find

July 3, 2012

When we first bought our house I had dreams of finding all this cool old stuff. You know the stuff people just leave when they move out, and it stays in the house homeowner after homeowner. I was gonna find all sorts of cool old doors, hardware, remnants of wood flooring, pictures, notes, and love letters. Then, this did not happen :( Unfortunately, the previous owners, and the owners before them were the type of people that liked to take all their stuff with them when they moved, what jerks. I haven’t found any good treasures in this house except for an old hammer and a really old hot plate. I’m so curious to know who lived here before me. The 1940 census came out earlier this year and I poured over pages and pages of Minneapolis addresses looking for my home. It wasn’t there, It doesn’t exist, I couldn’t find it. My neighbors were there, I could see who lived in their houses, but no record of mine. Total major bummer, man. I’ve had such bad luck learning about this house. Then, when I was opening the windows to the attic for the house painters to access, I found [...]

Chevron Bedding

June 15, 2012

I had to post about this new bedding I bought, because it is awesome and you should know about it too. I’ve had my eye on this chevron bedding from West Elm for awhile. I really liked the pattern and could easily see it looking great in our bedroom. Plus our current bedding was on it’s 4th year and was starting to fade and get old. The thing is, back in about 2006, I purchased some West Elm bedding on sale for less than $60 bucks. I was really excited about it, and when it showed up, I was really disappointed. It was scratchy and stiff and not anything I would want next to my skin at the end of the day. I was super bummed. Ever since then I’ve been nervous about purchasing bedding from West Elm. I couldn’t resist that pattern though, so last week when they were offering free shipping I did it. I ordered up my bedding. I was really unsure as to how it was going to pan out. First of all their bedding is fairly inexpensive as far as bedding goes. I was worried I was going to get what I paid for. Not [...]

Bedroom Done.

April 20, 2012

Okay, so it’s been a few months in the making but I can finally call our bedroom done! Cue the confetti cannons!! That’s how I feel about it, anyways. My story goes like this: Jeff and I have never really put a nice bedroom together for ourselves. We suck, I know. I think the closest we ever got was back in 2003 at our first apartment together, when I painted some of my great grandma’s furniture white and the walls yellow and got a comforter to match it all. That was the extent of our bedroom decorating career. From there on out making the bedroom an awesome space has never really been something we focused on. At the loft our bedroom was practically in the living room so all we had to really do was make sure our duvet cover didn’t suck and our bed was made. At our rental house we didn’t really care because we knew we weren’t going to be staying there long. By the time we moved into our own house, the years of not really caring about our bedroom became normal and continued until just a few months ago. And honestly, the bedroom wasn’t on [...]

Cleaning Out My Closet

April 10, 2012

Does this ever happen to you? I went up to my room to find a new shirt because Gus’ diaper decided to not work while I was holding him (major boo). Then, as I was searching for a new top to wear something came over me. I started ripping my closet apart. I’ve been wanting to go through my closet and purge for awhile, but was just putting it off. I guess I just couldn’t stand it anymore. All those old maternity clothes were starting to get on my nerves. In less than ten minutes I filled four bags of clothes to donate, two bags of ratty old clothes to throw away and the rest was what I kept. Now it’s time for the hard part… putting it all away. This is what it looked like after I went through it. Ugh. I decided that since I had everything out of my closet that it probably needed a little love. I don’t know about you, but Jeff and I are the type of people that don’t know how to close our closet door no matter how dirty. Unless company is coming over it’s always open. It was time to pretty [...]

Bedroom Accessories

I’m still not done with our master bedroom, but I’m getting there. I’ve got one wall left to paint, a little trim to touch up and some new hardware to install. Then the painting/updating/fixing/repairing part of the project is done. Next comes the really fun part, shopping! So if Jeff (wink wink) let me go hog wild, this is what I would buy: 1. Organmi Crease Vase from Have You Met MIss Jones 2. Draper Stripe Shames from Dwell Studio – Just another piece of Dwell Studio linens to add to the bedding. I know that there is a lot of pattern going on already, but why stop there. I’d love to add these in replace of the white shams I currently have on the bed. 3. Perch Glass Lamp from West Elm – Bedside Table Lamp Part I 4. Alarm Clock with Yellow Hands from Braun 5. Ruperta Cushion from Fine Little Day – Total Love Fest 6. Industrial Task Desk Lamp from West Elm – Bedside Table Lamp Part II. I’m totally obsessed with this lamp, I want it, and I love it. Photo Credit: SFGIRLBYBAY.com I’ve been totally inspired by Victoria’s space in the above photo. I’m [...]
