Dessert was a belated Father’s Day treat chosen by my dad- Turtle Cake! (recipe- http://www.midwestliving.com/recipe/chocolate-cakes/cafe-lattes-turtle-cake/ ) After, we shot off a ton of fireworks with our nephew – snakes, sparklers, smoke bombs, fountains, artillery shells, bottle rockets, roman candles – you name it, we lit it up!

I went to my family’s annual 4th of July pot luck, spent hours on a boat and in a lake with friends and cousins, went to a rodeo, went to a rodeo dance, bruised my leg riding a mechanical bull, stayed up late a lot, slept in a tent in a thunderstorm, discovered a new townie bar, sat at several bon fires, roasted marshmellows, got a little tan and a little burned. I do roughly the same thing every year, but it is always a little different, a new friend joins us, people bring new dates, we change up the routine in some way that turns out to be totally fun–it is always an adventure and one of my favorite weekends of the year! P.s. I love that bracelet. :)

I got some weird looks from the other show-attendees who probably thought I was a bad mom for bringing him out to a show but he was LOVED it and was totally happy and dancing with his big headphones on. He’s got a great “get down low” booty dance he does. I have no idea where he learned it.

On the way home, we got caught in a HUGE hailstorm (it was crazy!!) and had to stay in the van in our driveway until the hail let up before we made a run for it. We spent the evening drinking brews in the garage watching fireworks after the baby went to sleep. All in all, a fun day!

A huge blow-up adult-sized water slide with double dolphins at the top! (were the adults having more fun, hell yes!) Lots of bubbles, squirt guns, and an enormous trampoline. This party was epic, perfect for a rock star 3 year old!

Over the Fourth of July we went swimming in Lake Nokomis (kind of gross and refreshing at the same time) and wrangled our 1 1/2 year old nephew. Totally an adventure! Oh, and we went to a B & B in Red Wing on Saturday…it was an old Victorian house that Karl thought was “outdated.” Um, it’s supposed to look old! :)
