A Bit of Spring

Add Spring to your home using grocery store bulb gardens and pretty little vessels
One of my new favorite things is growing mini bulb gardens indoors. Last fall and winter I grew paper white bulbs inside of these small, matte, pale coral “bowls” I picked up at CB2 last spring. I really enjoyed having these mini gardens for a good chunk of the winter as semi-permanent floral arrangements on our bed side tables. I was hungry to find bulbs to grow in these small pots this spring. I couldn’t resist when I saw a spring bulb arrangement wrapped in purple foil at the grocery store last week. For $12 bucks I snapped it up and brought it home. I quickly disassembled the garden and reassembled it in my tiny pots, placing them on our night stands. If all goes well, we’ll be enjoying yellow daffodils, purple hyacinth, blue muscari and colorful tulips for the next few weeks. You should probably try it too.

What bulbs grow in the summer/early fall seasons? Does that even exist?

I’m a native twin cities dweller and I have been on the hunt for already sprouted bulbs for my home. The last three grocery stores I hit up didn’t have any. Where did you pick yours up?

Okay Amelia, you are on to my dirty little secret. I actually fibbed a bit in this post when I said I picked them up at my local grocery store. What I meant to say was that I picked the up when I was checking out of the online grocery store I order my groceries from (Coborns Delivers). I have seen them at the Bachmans on Lyndale in South Minneapolis though. Hope that helps.

  • Your home and photography are lovely! Thanks for the tips! I’m even more excited that you’re a Minnesota resident. Grew up there but now live in Montana. So excited to follow your progress.

I have a bucket of vauoris brands all dead and waiting for the recycling nightmare. All were in fittings with ample air circulation, and were not frequent on and off scenarios. These bulbs are a scam. The premature failure rate of all brands is over 50%.I am going to convert our home to fluoro tubes.Long type and some circular in a few spots. When LED comes good and China gets its act together I may change tacks, but for now my evidence is empirical Never buy CFL globes. They are NOT an green or economical choice, at either end of their cycle.1/10
