Your basically starting at square one, and a lot of what we have at the cabin has been stuff I’ve been socking away in hopes of one day having a cabin. The room that really took the brunt of my alley-garbage-day-finds was the guest bedroom. Things have finally started to settle down and we are having some chill time.  Chill time for me usually comes with some sort of project, because I like projects and they make me feel good. I walk into Target the other day and everything rules, and I put everything in my cart, and then have to take ten minutes before checking out to have a real deal crisis about what I keep and what I put back! Like, what just happened? I guess they are calling this new amazingness &#8220;Project 62&#8221;. Targs seems to have rebranded a few old Threshold favs, a couple-a &#8216;Dwell for Target&#8217; pieces, and a whole lot of other good looking stuff to make a new brand. This is all I can discern, I know nothing else. I am speechless. Target has been the shit the last few fall seasons, I think this is a known fact now. Howevs, I was a bit blindsided this time. Everything was beautiful, everything felt solid and well made, nothing was plastic or only a facade. I mean, I just&#8230; Anyway. 					<description><![CDATA[Dude(tte)s! We are committing to this patio thing! I think it will add tons to our outdoor experience and is gonna look-a real nice! Things that I need to tell you about it are as follows. I have been scouring the internets looking for a realistic option for covering the concrete slab and then I stumbled upon NewTechWood. They sell recycled composite decking in both normal wood slat style as well in a 12&#8243;x12&#8243; interlocking tile system. It was the perfect solution to my problem! I reached out to the company and told them about my project and they were happy to send me some tiles if I in turn shared my cool discovery with you guys. &#8220;With pleasure&#8221;, I said (more on the 2 hour install real soon). The other thing that happened is that after my post about outdoor sectional furniture you guys left me pondering whether or not I should DIY my own or purchase something new. After reading your comments I was very torn, a lot of you guys thought I could make something awesome (which I could&#8217;ve probably, I was more concerned about the timeline and cushion assembly) or if I was gonna buy outdoor furniture spend the money and buy something with good fabric and cushions. That&#8217;s when my Amazon shopping cart came into play. I had placed the sofa that I most liked in my cart on Amazon as a way to bookmark it. I wasn&#8217;t really thinking I&#8217;d buy it, I just didn&#8217;t want to remove it from my options until I was set on a solution. Sometime later (I&#8217;d say a week to 10 days) Amazon offered me a $200 coupon because their robots could tell I was on the fence about it &#8211; probably all those times going to my shopping cart but not being able to seal the deal. I couldn&#8217;t resist the coupon, the sofa was already marked down nearly 50% it retails for 3k and most other sites wanted around $2300 for it (I think it was from last season) and with the $200 discount, I was able to nab it for $1200. It also had great reviews everywhere, is made by a a company called ae outdoor which is founded by a SCAD designer who thought there was a need for better outdoor furniture (true), and it the cushions are made with sunbrella fabric (top-notch shit). 					<description><![CDATA[Wow. I thought I was going to make it through this winter season without experiencing the SADZ, but this week I have just been dragging. I&#8217;m sick of the chapped lips, I&#8217;m sick of the snow, I&#8217;m sick of the dirt, I&#8217;m sick of the gray, I&#8217;m sick of coats and boots, I&#8217;m sick of pretending I&#8217;m not wearing pajamas all day, I&#8217;m sick of it all!!! I tried to fight the good fight this year, I tried to embrace the winter as best I could. I/We did a pretty good job for sure, but man, it&#8217;s been getting to me! I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s necessarily mentally healthy to start dreaming about the spring, but I&#8217;m doing it, and it&#8217;s soothing. Wrap me up in a blanket and give me a pacifier, (aka a device where I can search for patio furniture and research decking), and I&#8217;ll be happy-ish, at least I&#8217;ll stop crying. My ideal situation would involve this project costing zero dollars, but since that is kinda unrealistic, I&#8217;m searching for affordable outdoor sectionals that still look not-totally-crappy. There are some contenders in this bunch, and I&#8217;m still very much always liking the price of the Ikea pieces, I&#8217;m just wondering how well they really hold up and look. Anyone with experience in this dept please chime in and let your girlfriend (aka me) know what you think. Part of me sometimes just wants to blow the budget and go for a piece like this, because A) it is large enough for me and all of my friends to hang out on, B) has nice mid-century-ish lines and tufting, C) looks a little bit more tailored, and D) has not that boring brown wicker that most of America must love. 					<description><![CDATA[Oh, hai. Grommet curtains and I have been good friends for a long time, but I think the time has come for me to mosey on (cuz I&#8217;m a cowboy) and start a love affair with a new style of curtain. I&#8217;ve long adored the casual crispness of a good simple grommet curtain. Grommets are both relaxed and tailored at the same time, and I v much like that vibe. When you are a young twenty-something (and thirty something) grommet curts are an inexpensive way to have nice looking curtains with out shelling out tons of dough on custom window treatments. Now that I am getting older and am in the twilight of my 30&#8217;s I&#8217;ve noticed something changing in me. My tastes seem to be evolving and I am becoming slightly less interested in modern design, and more into stuff that has some traditional and even classic undertones (but not too much, just a little). I think the most likely explanation for this change is that I&#8217;m being brain washed by our new velvet pleated chair into liking more fancy shit, or maybe I&#8217;m just growing up . Both are plausible. Anyways, I am still pretty cheap when it comes to curtains. I was ready for an upgrade but was still not ready for spending tons of cash. That was until I had visited a clients house and was inspired by her new curtains. She had hung Ikea Ritva curtains with curtain clips and I was really impressed by the look. The Ritva curtains have a nice texture and weight, and look much more expensive than they are. I didn&#8217;t hesitate, and ordered 4 sets of curtain clips from West Elm, and then headed to Ikea for the rest of the goods. As it is with all Ikea curtains, there is a little give and take. It always seems like you have to force them into shape and to take care when hemming them so that they will lay nicely. I spent the better part of an afternoon ironing the curtains to lay flat and to pleat at all the right places (no, we don&#8217;t have a steamer otherwise I bet I coulda saved a lot of time). I wanted the curtains to have a small understated pleat, you know, semi-tailored and delicate, without being too stuffy &#8212; just a little fancy. 					<description><![CDATA[BROUGHT TO YOU IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BURKE DECOR We decided this year that we&#8217;d go all out on decorating our basement for the holidays instead of doing the main floor of the house as we normally do. I have to say I&#8217;m really excited about how the space all came together. I&#8217;ve put together a respectable collection of holiday decor over the years, and since a theme can change from year to year I have begun to get pretty neutral when purchasing seasonal decor. What do I mean by that? If it&#8217;s not white, metallic or natural greens, I tend to pass on making that purchase. By committing to a palette I&#8217;ll be investing in holiday decor that I can reuse and incorporate in our home during the winter months. It seems to depend on the year what metallic I am into, a few years ago it was silver, the year before it was gold, and last year was copper. This year I was able to get a set of matte metallic circle garland that incorporated all three colors (brass, nickel and copper), which allowed me to incorporate my collection of different colored metallics throughout our basement family room. Before decorating I gather up all of my collected holiday items from years past, and one or two new items for this year. I added the metallic garland (seen above) and some buffalo check stockings ($13 bucks!) to my holiday-decor-arsenal this year. I wanted a simple understated vibe for the basement. I especially love the green from the freeze dried boxwood that purchased a few years back, which I draped it on top of the built-in cabinets in our &#8220;dining-nook&#8221;, and nestled in some gold tipped christmas trees. After spying that very cool cinema light box on CLJ&#8216;s site, I snagged up my own this summer. We&#8217;ve changed out the message quite a few times &#8211; I try to keep my quips on the funny side (not-so-much-inspirational). &#8220;Merry Christ-mas&#8221; was Gus&#8217; choice, and I suppose it seemed like a fitting sentiment. The new garland from Burke Decor is draped across the built-ins, transitioning from our little dining/game area into the larger living space. I think it will also make the perfect backdrop at our annual holiday party and new years day celebraishes. 					<description><![CDATA[Hey peoples, hope all is well and that you are all doing well. Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year? We are, and I&#8217;m really excited for it this year. That probably has a lot to do with this Thanksgiving being very small and intimate, I&#8217;m talking like four adults two kids intimate. Doesn&#8217;t that sound kind of great? I&#8217;m NO good at decorating tables. I can never pull it together in just the right way to make it seem effortless. That being said, I feel like my luck is changing this year because I think I&#8217;m about to pull off a real pretty tablescape. Instead of freaking out and feeling like I had to have everything perfectly, I took it down a notch and tried to set a more casual, simple table. I picked up this really cute and neutral chambray table cloth at Target for fifteen bucks, it was new to me, but I am sure I will be able to use it for different table settings in the future. I always try and consider how many ways I can use table-top items before purchasing. For the table settings I bought pretty blue plates, they look like pottery but are melamine and only three bucks a piece! I layered the plates with black and white gingham napkins &#8212; I swear the napkins go with any occasion, and they wash up so easily. These are our daily go-to napkins and I&#8217;ve been buying new ones every year from Amazon so that we can build up a hefty stash. For the centerpiece, I purchased a grocery store bouquet of roses, and a few stems of branches with waxy leaves (I&#8217;m sure any leafy branch will do). I assembled the bouquet to my liking and centered it in the table in this birch bark lined vase that my mom gifted to me for our basement. Around the base of the birch vase I layered more of the leafy stems. The stems are followed up with squash to create a neutral base, and a few artichoke for texture. Candles are a must, and Target sells v inexpensive packs of unscented white candles. I placed each candle on a birch base to variate the height &#8211; the birch bases were an alley find before trash day. I prefer to go neutral when it comes to textiles and linens, this way I can easily incorporate them with other decor that I have out all year. Texture is where it&#8217;s at, and the more the better. It&#8217;s a subtle extra layer to make your space feel super comfy and welcoming. I&#8217;ve been rearranging pillow piles for weeks, and have throws on every possible surface you can sit on. 					<description><![CDATA[Friends! We decided to celebrate the basements first birthday by giving it a new side chair &#8212; just what every one year old basement wants! Honestly, it didn&#8217;t go down like that. It was my intention to have a mid-century orange swivel chair reupholstered in a dark blue (that was about a year ago). However, doing something like that takes initiative and action, and it was obvious that we (I) were not showing one sign of follow through. Clicking internet buttons is just way easier. So, it was decided that purchasing a side chair would be better than waiting to see how long it would do to do the former. We are lazy jerks. We were in need of something that offered comfortable seating, had a narrow profile (since we were limited on space), was affordable, and armless would be best. After eying all the chairs all over the internet, I became smitten with the bludot Field chair. As things that are well designed often are, it was WAY out of the price range. Lucky for us, West Elm has a chair with very similar lines for a fraction of the cost. I&#8217;m pretty excited about the chair, it does a lot for the space. It adds the slightest bit of color, which was needed badly. I love all the black and white, but I like it even better with a little blue. The speckled indigo fabric did it for me, and I&#8217;m already getting real good at pushing buttons and swiping screens, so that there can be dark blue pillows and throws to compliment the chair. The chair also helps to break up the long narrowness of the space. Furnishing a 28&#8242; x 12&#8242; has been a tricky design dilemma, so I&#8217;m way for things that help to break up the longnessesosities. Oh, and it offers a place to sit, so super functional &#8211; sitting is a function! Also, that little fan rules. We ordered it from Amazon at the beginning of the summer to help keep us cool on the front porch, since then we&#8217;ve ordered the large one as well and now they both keep us chill in the basement where we have no A/C. Highly recco. Anyways, because I look at the internet a lot, I thought I&#8217;d post a few of my fav blue chairs that came up while I was searching for the basement&#8217;s [&#8230;]]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Hey Guys. Sorry for the radio silence. I didn&#8217;t intend to be gone so long. The kids are on summer vacay, and now that everyone is kinda old, summertime has been really fun! The boys&#8217; friend Elsa is staying with us during the weekdays &#8212; we&#8217;ve been spending mornings at the beach for swimming lessons, and evenings at the park for little league. I&#8217;m trying out that free range parenting thing, the kids are so grown up, its really been pretty wonderful to see them find pride in responsibility. The fam and I were on vacation last week, we rented a big cabin near Longville, MN with our best budz. The kids out numbered the parents 7 to 6, but we all survived. A few days before we left on vacation I unfortunately experienced a sudden lost of an old friend who had a big impact on the person I have become. It&#8217;s been hard to say goodbye, and as you can imagine, blogging just didn&#8217;t feel right in the midst of it all. Anyway, the reason for this blog is to share a little about me, and this house, so lets get down to business. Our master bedroom has been rug-less for nearly a summer. We spent every last dime (and then some) on the basement remodel last year, and didn&#8217;t have the cash to splurge on things like rugs. Our basement was basically holding a card board sign begging for a spare rug, so our bedroom donated a black and white moroccan style rug to its cause. It was very selfless of our bedroom, I know. Fast forward a year later and my feet were cold, and it was becoming obvious that we needed a new rug in the bedroom. I&#8217;d been on the hunt for awhile and then I spied this beauty at Rug Studio, and snatched it up. I love it in the space &#8212; it adds the right amount of blue without going overboard on color. I had considered doing a shag moroccan or something a bit more neutral, but simple and modern with a touch of color felt like a better fit. I can&#8217;t tell you how much I missed having a rug in our bedroom, there&#8217;s something about softness underfoot before and after you wake that just feels right. 					<description><![CDATA[Hey Guys! Long time, no see. Things have been so crazy busy around here, it&#8217;s nuts. I am losing my mind and have been laid up with a killer cold, but good work is happening. Anyway, I wanted to share a quick post about the basement. I couldn&#8217;t figure out what to do behind the sofa, we had a big blank white wall, and figuring out what to hang on it was killing me. It really felt to me like we needed to have one large piece of artwork back there, but large artwork is not in the budget. Something like an oversized engineer print could have worked money wise, but would be to fragile for the space &#8211; the kids are always laying on the back of the sofa, and generally goofing off. Desperate to call this thang finished, I came up with the somewhat obvious plan to hang a ledge to display artwork which can easily be added to, or switched out whenever we so desired. This had been one of my original ideas (that&#8217;s why I say obvious) and then I kinda forgot about it. Ikea had discontinued the Ribba ledge in 2015 and I hadn&#8217;t realized that they had replaced it with the Mosslanda ledge. This ledge is way better because it has a little groove to allow artwork to lean just so, and keep kids from tipping them easily. I bought two of the 43&#8243; ledges and hung them on that big old wall. So there it is, expect a full basement reveal sometime next week, and then I promise I&#8217;ll be done yapping about it!]]></description>

I&#8217;ve been drooling over the lamps at One Forty Three for what seems like years now, and every pic I see come through my pinterest feed featuring a swing arm lamp I automatically pin. I&#8217;ve just been waiting one to add one to the almost-finished-basement, and then I saw a recent ASK This Old House episode where they walk you through re-wiring an old lantern into a electrified lamp. Obviously, I wasn&#8217;t going to be electrifying any lanterns, but I realized that the basic technique could be applied to any lamp easily. All of a sudden electricity wasn&#8217;t so scary. After snooping around the internet a little bit, I was able to find this site: Grand Brass Lamp Parts, the site looks like it was made in 1998, so I was a little hesitant, but I began looking around and quickly realized all the parts I needed to make a pretty cool looking swing arm lamp were right at my finger tips. Granted, the look I admire often features some bent tubing which really speaks to that clean, modern, look, I didn&#8217;t have a tube bender and I opted to use a simple wing nut toggle to achieve my angles. I actually really like the look, even though it would have not been my preferred method originally. Anyway, I wanted to share this with you guys, because making a lamp is fun and it costs half the price of buying online. Plus, the possibilities seem endless. I can easily see adding a telescoping feature to a swing arm lamp, OR make a string of lights, OR creating a sweet pendant, OR making a bad ass ceiling fixture. Endless. Possibilites.
