I walk into Target the other day and everything rules, and I put everything in my cart, and then have to take ten minutes before checking out to have a real deal crisis about what I keep and what I put back! Like, what just happened? I guess they are calling this new amazingness &#8220;Project 62&#8221;. Targs seems to have rebranded a few old Threshold favs, a couple-a &#8216;Dwell for Target&#8217; pieces, and a whole lot of other good looking stuff to make a new brand. This is all I can discern, I know nothing else. I am speechless. Target has been the shit the last few fall seasons, I think this is a known fact now. Howevs, I was a bit blindsided this time. Everything was beautiful, everything felt solid and well made, nothing was plastic or only a facade. I mean, I just&#8230; Anyway. 					<description><![CDATA[First of all, let me start this post off by saying that the enthusiasm I received from the last post is just the right sort of positive energy I needed, thank you so mucho! Yes, I am the type of person that needs to know that what I am is producing matters, I apologize for my neediness in advance, but I hope that you know that it means so much to me that so many of you took the time to tell me so. It feels good, and makes this feel like there is some&#8221;one&#8221; (aka &#8220;people&#8221;) on the other end. It also feels like a fresh start, for instance instead of texting two of my best friends asking if I should buy these chairs or not (who I also did ask), while trying to reason my way through it, I&#8217;m gonna ask you guys at midnight, 3/4&#8217;s into a bottle of Champagne, on a Thursday, what you think. Basically, I am Alaskan Bush person now, and I barter. Jeff an I made a furniture/cabin supply budget of $4k going into this adventure. We&#8217;ve allocated every, penny and spent 3/4 of it thus far. This is where the bartering comes into play&#8230; We were planning on spending $350 for a leather ottoman (noticed first at the thegoldhive.com) and then I got side tracked by these two olive drab, army green canvas covered chairs from urban outfitters that just might be perfect for in front of the fireplace (and they are on sale!). I had no idea they existed until I saw Sarah Samuel Sherman post about how much she loves her set on her IG story. I screen-shotted them to show you, me, Waff, anyone &#8211; is that OK? Yes, they cost more than the ottoman (by $250) but I think we could spend lightly the next few weeks and make the difference up. Is it worth it? I think it could be super cool to sit in front of the fire place on these beauts, and it brings in that desperately needed bit of cabin-green, plus of course the functionality of sitting. They look good from the back too! You already know that I&#8217;m sold. It&#8217;s gonna be good. Now the bartering begins.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Hey buds, I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve noticed my lack of blogging lately, I&#8217;ve been posting about once a week, and I will be the first to admit that the posts have been kinda lack luster. We have been busy with cabin things, there has been so much to do with inspections and appraisals and negotiations and furniture purchasing and so on. Sometimes I wish I could just talk about all cabin stuff all the time, but I&#8217;ve been holding it in because I didn&#8217;t want the deal to fall through. That being said, we feel pretty confident at this point that we will take ownership of this sweet space at the end of July. Anywho, I&#8217;ve also had a lot of thoughts about blogging lately. I put weird pressures on myself to make the blog successful, like deep down I want to have a blog that lots of people like to read. I&#8217;m the type of person that always does a pretty good job at following through on my goals and one of them was to have DCHH have a piece of the diy-blog-pie. I think I&#8217;m coming to the realization that that will never be a thing (at least in the big league level), and that&#8217;s okay. The whole reason I have ever done this is because it makes me happy, I can do all the things that I like to do in one space here on the internets. It would be lying if I said that I wasn&#8217;t hoping that maybe it could be my part-time job. After thinking through what that entails though, I&#8217;ve realized that the marketing and strategizing is just not something I am good at. For starters, I suck at social media, just thinking about posting on instagram gives me anxiety. I feel like there is so much judgement and entitlement that goes along with the social-media-devouring-internet-machine these days, I can&#8217;t take the pressure &#8211; that&#8217;s not a diss on those who can either, it&#8217;s just too intense for me. I&#8217;ve spent more time away over the past month, from everything including my phone, and I think that it was a good break. I feel way better and more creative when I have a healthy distance. 					<description><![CDATA[+++ sources +++ 1 &#124; 2 Hey Homies. Things are so exciting and crazy busy around here. Summer is in full swing, the kids finished school yesterday and we&#8217;ve got every weekend of the entire summer filled-up (midwestern term). In our free time we talk about mortgages, and money, and furniture, and friends, and what it&#8217;s gonna be like to have a real cabin! We can&#8217;t wait. The cabin comes furnished, but I&#8217;m not sure I&#8217;d call that a perk. It&#8217;s decorated in a very genereric-off-the-shelf cabin sort-of-a-way. It&#8217;s great to not worry about having to furnish a whole entire cabin, especially in the kitchen, bathroom, home maintenance and boating gear departments, but at the same time, do we really want to live with other people&#8217;s stuff? Thankfully the cabin has been a rental for the last 7 years or so, there isn&#8217;t a lot of personal paraphernalia that will be staying &#8211; we still want it to feel like it&#8217;s ours though. We have a relatively small budget that we are working within, and we have been trying to figure out what things we need to make it feel more like ours, while trying our hardest to make that dollar stretch. Let&#8217;s just say I came home with an entire station wagon full of Ikea sheets, bedding, mattresses, pillows and comforters yesterday. I wanted to share some cabin inspiration for any of you who might be curious as to where we are heading, there&#8217;s lots more over on my Dream Cabiné Pinterest page too. I&#8217;ve got more mockups to share in a forthcoming post (which has been halfway written for at least a week), hopefully that will be sooner rather than later. I&#8217;d like to veer on the side of minimal and thoughtful. I think paint will be our best friend when it comes to lightening, brightening and simplifying. We&#8217;ll be following through on our ambitious painting plans once we get into the throes of winter, and need an activity to keep us occupied. For starters though, we&#8217;ll be ripping out the carpet to expose the hidden hardwoods the minute we take ownership, we&#8217;ll furnish the living room with a new sofa and arm chair, and we&#8217;ll be replacing most of the beds and bedding with new fresh linens. 					<description><![CDATA[Dude(tte)s! We are committing to this patio thing! I think it will add tons to our outdoor experience and is gonna look-a real nice! Things that I need to tell you about it are as follows. I have been scouring the internets looking for a realistic option for covering the concrete slab and then I stumbled upon NewTechWood. They sell recycled composite decking in both normal wood slat style as well in a 12&#8243;x12&#8243; interlocking tile system. It was the perfect solution to my problem! I reached out to the company and told them about my project and they were happy to send me some tiles if I in turn shared my cool discovery with you guys. &#8220;With pleasure&#8221;, I said (more on the 2 hour install real soon). The other thing that happened is that after my post about outdoor sectional furniture you guys left me pondering whether or not I should DIY my own or purchase something new. After reading your comments I was very torn, a lot of you guys thought I could make something awesome (which I could&#8217;ve probably, I was more concerned about the timeline and cushion assembly) or if I was gonna buy outdoor furniture spend the money and buy something with good fabric and cushions. That&#8217;s when my Amazon shopping cart came into play. I had placed the sofa that I most liked in my cart on Amazon as a way to bookmark it. I wasn&#8217;t really thinking I&#8217;d buy it, I just didn&#8217;t want to remove it from my options until I was set on a solution. Sometime later (I&#8217;d say a week to 10 days) Amazon offered me a $200 coupon because their robots could tell I was on the fence about it &#8211; probably all those times going to my shopping cart but not being able to seal the deal. I couldn&#8217;t resist the coupon, the sofa was already marked down nearly 50% it retails for 3k and most other sites wanted around $2300 for it (I think it was from last season) and with the $200 discount, I was able to nab it for $1200. It also had great reviews everywhere, is made by a a company called ae outdoor which is founded by a SCAD designer who thought there was a need for better outdoor furniture (true), and it the cushions are made with sunbrella fabric (top-notch shit). Like it&#8217;s not freezing every day. Unfortch it&#8217;s pretty brown, dirty and lifeless, but the air is warmer and the sun is hotter. It won&#8217;t be long now. In anticipation of stuff growing, bugs coming back to life, and the outdoor world opening itself up to being lived in, I am doing what I do best, and getting things ready. That way, when the clock actually flips to spring, and the buds on the trees open up, I&#8217;ll be all prepared for it. My neighbs think I&#8217;m crazy and jumping the gun, but why would I want to waste precious yard hanging time when I can do all the dirty work now while it&#8217;s still kind of ugly out? Makes sense, right? Anywhozzle (that&#8217;s a very cool way to say anyhow), I&#8217;ve been in the yard for the last three days and I&#8217;m just crushing my spring to-do list. So far this week I&#8217;ve installed landscape lighting in the front yard (more on that soon), attempted to clean our mildewed cotton hammock &#8211; today I will try with bleach (my last resort), fixed a broken chair (that a drunk friend who is known for breaking chairs broke during our annual Friend Feast celebraish), shined up our copper fire pit, and tidied up the garden beds. I&#8217;m still working on touching up the fence stain. It&#8217;s been almost three years since I originally stained our fence, and the color has faded a bit. Originally I used Behr semi-transparent in the chocolate color, I liked the color at first but it got more and more orangey as it faded. This time around I am going straight to the much darker coffee stain. It&#8217;s looking good and getting much darker and more muted in one coat, so that&#8217;s pretty cool. I&#8217;m still thinking a lot about our concrete slab situation in the backyard, and I have decided that I am going to make it into a real deal patio! Still scheming a bit on how that is all going to come together, but have been pinning a lot of inspiration. I&#8217;d really like the design to be simple, using a muted color palette, candles or lanterns, and lots of cushions and green stuff. 					<description><![CDATA[Wow. I thought I was going to make it through this winter season without experiencing the SADZ, but this week I have just been dragging. I&#8217;m sick of the chapped lips, I&#8217;m sick of the snow, I&#8217;m sick of the dirt, I&#8217;m sick of the gray, I&#8217;m sick of coats and boots, I&#8217;m sick of pretending I&#8217;m not wearing pajamas all day, I&#8217;m sick of it all!!! I tried to fight the good fight this year, I tried to embrace the winter as best I could. I/We did a pretty good job for sure, but man, it&#8217;s been getting to me! I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s necessarily mentally healthy to start dreaming about the spring, but I&#8217;m doing it, and it&#8217;s soothing. Wrap me up in a blanket and give me a pacifier, (aka a device where I can search for patio furniture and research decking), and I&#8217;ll be happy-ish, at least I&#8217;ll stop crying. My ideal situation would involve this project costing zero dollars, but since that is kinda unrealistic, I&#8217;m searching for affordable outdoor sectionals that still look not-totally-crappy. There are some contenders in this bunch, and I&#8217;m still very much always liking the price of the Ikea pieces, I&#8217;m just wondering how well they really hold up and look. Anyone with experience in this dept please chime in and let your girlfriend (aka me) know what you think. Part of me sometimes just wants to blow the budget and go for a piece like this, because A) it is large enough for me and all of my friends to hang out on, B) has nice mid-century-ish lines and tufting, C) looks a little bit more tailored, and D) has not that boring brown wicker that most of America must love. 					<description><![CDATA[Alright, I&#8217;ve been trying to not think about spring for a long time. I keep trying to enjoy the winter (which I admit, I&#8217;ve been really good at this year). The last few weeks have been especially warm, and now that it&#8217;s back to stupid cold again, I just can&#8217;t. Spring needs to get here already! Anyways, against my husbands wishes, I have been scheming about a dream patio space in our backyard. See more below. Do you guys remember, back when we got the fence installed? We had enclosed a cement slab that had previously functioned as a parking pad and butts up against the garage. Prior to our new fence, this area had not been fenced in before. Being that we were a two car family it seemed like a waste of space to have a good chunk of our potential backyard space be spoken for by a parking spot. Instead we decided that it would be best to include it as part of our backyard (pretty or not) and have it be a fun play spot for the kids. That was great and it worked just like we planned for the last few years. Howevs, last summer we noticed that no one was playing with their toys in this part of our yard anymore. It had gone back to being a neglected eye sore and we had very tentatively talk about it potentially becoming a patio some time down the road. With my spring fever in full gear, I couldn&#8217;t resist making some plans, (aka goals to work towards)(aka genius ideas that we should definitely do). I always find it so useful to make some sketches, whether it be in a computer program or on paper. The plans will always change, but filling in some solid ideas before even starting a project goes a long, long way. For instance, this plan doesn&#8217;t need to be executed all at once, instead it can be used as a map. When I sketched out the basement, I included my final version of the basement bath. When it came time to execute the plan, the budget couldn&#8217;t fit the entire bath remodel, but we had a solid plan, and it made it easy to know exactly where we were heading so that we could finish the project later. 					<description><![CDATA[STOCKHOLM armchair $149 cushion $80 Hey, I might be a little late to the party, but the new Ikea Stockholm collection that was announced a few weeks back (in case you didn&#8217;t know!). I am totally into and inspired by the vibes coming through on this collection due to arrive in April. I love the introduction of the blonde rattan (sustainably sourced too) and ash, especially when it comes to that comfy-looking chair, and cabinet. Everything about the chairs is getting to me, I&#8217;m super into the way the rattan is woven together to make really interesting negative spaces, and the seats are low and deep and look so inviting. Is it just me, or would a pair of those arm chairs be the perfect addition to our front porch? Depending on the size, I think yes. The sofa looks pretty great too don&#8217;t cha think? 					<description><![CDATA[Get The Look &#160; I&#8217;ll be the first to admit, the bathroom was one of those projects where we got to splurge on some really nice finishes. I love getting good deals and spending on the things that really matter, and this was the perfect example of that. This bathroom mattered! We needed it to be functional, pretty, and the finishes needed to last a long time. I doubt there will ever be another basement renovation like this in our future so now was the time to ante up. We had always intended on furnishing the bathroom with the Kohler sink, faucets and shower trim. It was essential to the design and we weren&#8217;t going to compromise. However, I was going to compromise on the floor tile, and go with a simple matte penny round in black. That was until Kohler became a partner and thus we had a little more wiggle room in the ol&#8217; budget. &#8220;The Budget&#8221; comes into play every time we update a look in our home. I like to think that I spend quite a bit of time doing my due diligence and making sure that we are getting the best price on a product, OR finding a similar less expensive product, before pulling the trigger on any purchases. I am kinda good at internet shopping for home decor. For example, I love the Steele hamper, it was especially necessary because it fit our linen nook perfectly. I waited and hunted and when I found it for a steal (lolz, punz) I nabbed it. I was able to find an offer from rejuvenation for 20% off and free shipping. How about that Tolix stool? It was an item that would be perfect for the space, I loved the flat black finish, and the height (18&#8243;) was spot on for kids, but $215 bucks. No thanks. So, I started searching for a knock off and was able to find this one for $45 with free shippin&#8217;. After making multiple &#8220;Inspiration&#8221; boards, I usually sit back and take stock and see if there is anything I can replicate or DIY myself, in this instance, it was the pendant lights. I ordered parts online and made my own version (tutorial coming soon) for substatnsch less. 					<description><![CDATA[I&#8217;m back to my seasonal need to tweak everything inside the house. This happens every fall, it&#8217;s that whole nesting thing. Our time outdoors is limited, daylight is waning, and we begin to nestle into our winter ways (I&#8217;m so damn poetic today). We spend a lot more time in the living room, even eating meals at the dining room table (novel huh?). It&#8217;s nearly impossible for my mind not to wander when it comes to re-decorating these spaces. The dining room has never been a space that I&#8217;ve felt overly confident or proud of. I&#8217;ve had to really suss out inspiration and blindly find a cohesive design from the jump. Pins for dining rooms featuring dark wood paneled walls, built-in buffets (done in a style that appears to be a mashup of craftsman and late victorian eras), and mid-century modern furniture are few in far between. I&#8217;ve realized over the years that if I&#8217;m going to embrace this wood trim on our main floor that I need to go dark with the wall color, seriously, it seems to be what works the best. Believe me, I&#8217;ve tried everything. I would love for it all to be white, but it always seems forced. Dark walls just seem right in the space. Plus going dark has the added benny of being v cozy in the winter time. My main concern is that dark walls paired with lots of paneling and woodwork tend to feel a bit more refined and grown up, both things are not really words you would use to describe me or my style. Herein lies the problem, figuring out how to put my personal chill into these adult rooms. We&#8217;ve really embraced white walls and a much more Scandinavian-inspired-cabin-style in the rest of the home and it seems to work really well in this old house. I still hang on to a few mid-century pieces that I love, a lot of black and white textures (especially with throws and pillows) and a high repetition of brass and copper metallic accents. I also reiterate dark blues everywhere (if you haven&#8217;t noticed) and sprinkle in some blush tones now and again. Our bedroom for example is really comfortable, light and airy, and the copper peonies wallpaper does a good job of making it more mature. Can we talk for a sec about how Target is ruling this shit right now! Holy smokes, this new stuff that&#8217;s coming out this fall is on point. You make Minneapolis look good, Target. So I thought I&#8217;d share a few of the items I&#8217;ve had my eyeballs on as of late. First of all, that pink chair! I&#8217;ll take two for the living room, please and thank ya. Actually, scratch that, I&#8217;ll take that whole upper left hand section for my living room. I love it all! That black and white striped throw with the tassels would make my B&#038;W obsessch a little more refined and grown up. They&#8217;ve got tons of good vessels, I&#8217;ve nearly bought that black vase (in the middle) 10 times, I might wait it out and see if it makes it to clearance. I grabbed the braided Nate Berkus bucket (num 9) last week, and I put my fiddle leaf fig in it. The fig was one that I had adopted from my mom, it came with a green ceramic planter that wasn&#8217;t cutting the mustard, so I plopped it in that woven tote &#8212; I&#8217;m sure also good for storing throws and other cozy items. For anyone who wants the look of a mid century planter, but doesn&#8217;t want to pay all the bucks for it, Target has come up with an affordable options, just half a benjamin and you can take this one home. Uh, those rose colored barstools are the best, if only I had a need. They also have that same color in their other metal chairs (arm and reg), and I am kinda thinking they would be great for a patio, or something like that. Look! Another soft vessel for putting things in (num 18)! I bought the ivory version of the felt bucket last year and I kinda want to get this dark charcoal one this year. The kids kinda destroyed the other one, they used it as a boat(?) and drug each other around the basement in it. Anyways, still a good buy if your kids aren&#8217;t [&#8230;]]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[I stopped dead in my tracks during a quick trip to the Ikea marketplace last week. Uh, there was a display of all these wonderful textiles and patterns, I had to touch and look at everything, and swooped up a few things for the house. This is the new Ikea collection, Svärtan (aka Darkness!), designed by Martin Bergström and Indian fashion students in New Delhi. +++ svärtan collection +++ Inspired by the everyday textures and pattern found in India, Bergström wanted to create an interpretation of India that was different than the way it was &#8220;perceived in the West as colorful, golden and shiny&#8221;. The New Delhi students form The National Institute of Fashion Technology, workshopped with Bergström creating a poetic abstract designs based on unexpected pattern and texture found in the city. I am entranced with the organic mood of this entire collection, and I don&#8217;t even know why because it&#8217;s kind of out of my norm to be so goth. Anyways, just thought I&#8217;d point it out, might be worth a trip to the old &#8216;kea. In other news, I am about to head out on the most epic journey! 					<description><![CDATA[Guysers! I&#8217;m excited about this post because it&#8217;s about an office, and I have one of those now! I&#8217;ve been carving out a spot in our house for a real home office, I need a work space now that I&#8217;ll be blogging way more often. Did you hear that? I&#8217;ll be blogging tons now, I&#8217;m going for it! I&#8217;ve been able to post a lot more the last few weeks, which has been feeling incredibly awesome to do. I hope you guys are enjoying the extra posts as well. It&#8217;s almost the most cliché thing I could say, but I feel like a new person now that I have time to dedicate to doing something that I truly love and enjoy. My kids are cool and all, but being creative and working is what makes me tick. I&#8217;ve also been putting the finishing touches on a business idea that I&#8217;ve been exploring the past few months, more on that in coming weeks though. I&#8217;ve decided that my work base will be in the upstairs sunroom, it&#8217;s a good quiet place with lots of chill vibes. The sunroom has always been one of my favorite spaces in the house, I like being around all my plants, and it&#8217;s bright and sunny, which I think will do wonders for my state of mind in the winter months. In case you&#8217;re not familiar with this space, it&#8217;s a small four season porch right off our master bedroom and had been functioning as a place for us to unwind, consume a cocktail or two, and watch some of the old idiot box at the end of a day. The thing is though, we haven&#8217;t used it for doing anything at all since we finished the basement last summer (which has a much bigger and louder tv). I also considered using the guest bedroom as an office because it&#8217;s bigger, but I&#8217;d still like to reserve that room for down the road when the boys might decide they want to have separate bedrooms. I&#8217;ve been spending some time this week making the space conducive for intense blogging seshes. I set up a new larger desk (aka plank of wood), got myself a black board for my daily to-do lists, definitely smudged some crystals, lit a candle once or twice, and bought a bunch of ridiculously pretty and unnecessary office items like those copper paper clips [&#8230;]]]></description>
