Friends! I decided to just start a whole new post called “Listen To It” because I need you to listen to this new Sleater Kinney record if you haven’t already!! I started listening to Sleater Kinney at the tender age of 17, I was coming down from a severe pre-teen love of hardcore pop-punk and beginning to venture into the much mousier indie rock genre. Sleater Kinney fit the bill perfectly for what I needed to hear. I immediately loved the sound of this mighty all lady band, and have continued to ever since. I preach to anyone who will listen that the S-K’s 2005 release, ‘The Woods’ as one of the greatest rock records front-to-back ever recorded! Listen to that too. Sleater Kinney is one of those bands that you hoped and hoped would reunite to make the album of the year. Then it happened! Dreams do come true. Honestly I haven’t been disappointed AT ALL. I’ve been listening to ‘No Cities to Love’ daily, loving it daily. 90’s guitar riffs with heavy, awesome, cool-lady vocals. I’m not a music critic my friends, so I’m just gonna say “Listen to it!” Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

Wut up buddies? Last week I got the opportunity to see one of my favorites, Bob Dylan, perform at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis for a three night stint. If you’re not familiar with the Orpheum it’s a small intimate 2,600 capacity venue. To have the opportunity to see Bob in Minneapolis, in such a small venue was not to be missed. I go to Bob Dylan shows with my dad exclusively. It’s just this little father daughter bonding thing that has become a part of our lives. The first time I saw Bob was at the Des Moines State Fair August 10, 2001 with Jeff, I was hooked. The second show in Fargo North Dakota, and almost all of them after were with my dad. I was 19 at the time of the Fargo show and he let me drink beers with him in the back of the station wagon before watching Bob play outdoors on a minor league baseball field while the sun set. It was at the 2004 show in Rochester MN that I was introduced to my first bloody beer while ‘tail gating’ in a Mayo clinic parking ramp. We got up close to the stage when the fair-weather-fans ran for cover because of the rain, got to see another memorable show, and coincidentally the bloody beer is now one of my favorite weekend beverages. We’ve also become very familiar with Bob Dylan’s band, the songs played on tour, Bob’s harmonica playing, and the subtle nuances between each show. We get and adore Bob’s oddities. Something as subtle as a funny pose or ad-libbed “woow” will get us reminiscing for hours after the show. We understand that the experience comes from the audience and the venue as much as from the music and band, and sometimes everything comes together perfectly for a very memorable night. That’s what keeps us coming back, not wanting to miss out on those perfect nights where everything is just right. Not everyone gets a kick out of old Bob, he’s an acquired taste live, but if you like him, you really like him. The Minneapolis shows were going to be my 11th 12th and 13th shows, and I’m hopeful there will be more. Bob’s on a never ending tour, which started back in 1988, because of that there has only ever been a year or two that have floated by without […]

Jeff and I took a quick getaway this weekend to see Bruce Springsteen in Atlanta. It had been 18 months since the last time we had seem him. It’s obvious that Bruce doesn’t have his priorities straight. I mean, he’s spent that entire 18 months touring the globe, and it didn’t even seem to bother him that he hadn’t seen me even once. Come on Bruce, what gives? When the band announced US dates we knew that we were going, somehow, someway. Hot-lanta is easy to travel to from from Minneapolis, both are Delta hubs so tickets were affordable and flights are frequent. The show was on a weekend – it was a no-brainer. The show was amazing! Bruce was a bit under the weather but decided to make it awesome for us by playing some deep cuts, incredible covers, and the best jamz from The River album, rather than running around the stage like a wild man (his typical steeze). It was super awesome and maybe even one of the best setlists of the entire tour. Our luck still hasn’t run out, and we somehow manage to always get reasonably close in the pit. We were within high five distance of the band again! We were with a good group of fans, got to meet up with some of our old “Bruce Buddies,” and got friendly with new Bruce pals from Chattanooga. It was a great night! I always want more though, hopefully additional tour dates will be announced sometime in the coming months, fingers crossed. I’ve only briefly been to Atlanta in the past. I suppose this visit was brief too, but we did get a bit of time to walk around the city, enjoy some tasty food, and spy a glimpse of spring. Holy cow, you Atlanta folks! I thought we had trees here, but you guys really live in a forest. Way to go on the beautiful lush city! Now we’re home again, yours truly is sick with an intense cold, and it’s forecasted to be stormy and chilly all week. We’re still waiting for spring, but at least we got a little taste of summer. Shout-outs to my folks for spending the weekend with our boys – can’t thank you enough! Share this...
Hey Guys! Hope you are all doing awesome today. It is snowing hard here, but it’s so much warmer than earlier this week, all is okay by me. I’ve gotten two walks in over the last 12 hours because I just need to get fresh air, and am desperate to be out of this house. I’m already thinking thoughts of spring, but am trying to suppress them because, winter after all is just a mind game. Anyway, on to what I wanted to tell you about; record collecting, record gear, and record shelves. Records and music have been a huge part of my life, maybe even the hugest. Music has shaped the path my life has taken – I got to see the lower 48 states because of it. I love being able to put on a record and feel inspired, and cool, and totally transported by the sound of some good jamz. My husband and I went record shopping on our first date – and started our most recent with a quick stop at a fav local record shop, it’s something we really enjoy collecting together. Kind of a weird couples past time, but it suits us. Lately we’ve been filling out our collection, it’s probably grown by a third over the last two years and it’s hard for us to resist picking up new records often. I should mention that I grew up in a house that had the entire basement dedicated to a very serious vinyl collection, I’m talking thousands and thousands of records. It was inevitable that someday both my brother and I would suffer with the same addiction my dad has – vinyl collecting. Christmas and birthdays for our fam has just become an exchange of records, it’s great! We recently came to the exciting realization that we had increased our collection so much that we needed to expand our shelving. That meant adding one more Expedit 2×2 shelf, like, woah. We’re getting to the point of maximum capacity, I mean, we could possibly add another set of 2×4 Expedit shelves on the opposite wall someday, but at that point we’d have to consider reinforcing the floors. I know that more and more people are collecting vinyl these days and there is a lot of good reasons to do so. Records have outlasted 8-tracks, cassettes, and cd’s because vinyl has better sound quality than any […]

Hello my friends! This weekend with Bruce was a total success!! We made it to the pit both nights, luck was on our side! The first night I had my first experience touching Bruce as he landed on top of me during “Hungry Heart,” while crowd surfing to the stage. It was great, I realized I wasn’t holding him up but instead grabbing onto his calf. It was awesome. The second night we brought our buddies Beak and Cam to their first ever show. Somehow we got lucky in the pit lottery (thanks Heidi) and made it to the 2nd row and experienced Bruce and the band up close and personal. We got to hear a few of my fav’s, “The E-Street Shuffle,” “Murder Incorporated,” and then “Jungleland” during the encore. Not to mention some super big firsts; opening the show with “I’m a Rocker,” and playing “Devils and Dust” with the entire band. It doesn’t get much better, two nights, two totally different and amazing shows. So I’ll be done with all this Bruce obsessing for awhile and hopefully will have something cool and home oriented to tell you about soon. Hang in there guys, my Bruce posts are almost over.

We’re back! Our quick trip to Ireland was super successful as you can see by the photo above. We were in Ireland for 5 days, we missed one flight, spent a total of 24 hours over a 48 hour period waiting in line to hang with Bruce Springsteen, we met a bunch of “Bruce Buddies” from all parts of the world, we got sunburns, we drank in pubs, we ate fish and chips, we saw some mummies, we visited the Jameson distillery and made it home in time to pick up the kids before bedtime Saturday. Now we need a vacation from our vacation. Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

I’ve hinted at it here and there but I don’t think I’ve ever really come out and said it. Jeff (aka Waff) and I are heading over the pond next month to visit our guy, Bruce Springsteen at the RDS Soccer stadium in Ireland!!!!! One night over our christmas break, we semi drunkenly purchased two tickets to see Bruce in Dublin, something that we’ve always dreamed about doing. It was one of those things where we didn’t really think it all through, it just sounded awesome, so we did it. Over the course of the last six months we’ve saved and purchased actual airline tickets to make it offish, booked hotel rooms and planned an itinerary. We’re heading out in just a few short weeks and I can barely stand the wait. It’s all starting to finally seem real. We visited Dublin back in 2007 and have a decent feel for the city. We will probably do a lot of what we did last time; sit in pubs, eat, drink, visit the Guinness brewery gravity bar, stop by the Jameson distillery, go see Bruce, spend a night with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and maybe catch the new Wes Anderson flick. We’ll just be going for a short stint so we’ll be packing it full. We haven’t had any time off since Christmas and we are ready for a break away from the kids. Lucky for me, my folks are totally awesome and going to come watch ’em. CAN’T. THANK. THEM. ENOUGH. They totally rule for taking on these bunch of crazies. Share this...
Finally the project that took FOREVER, is finally done and I can snuggle with Bruce in bed. Here he is hanging out on a chair, he looks good in all sorts of rooms in my house. I took the image from the cover on Darkness on the edge of Town I import the image into Adobe Illustrator and turn it into 3 tones, dark grey, light grey and white. And den, I grid it out. I’ve crocheted the background of the pillow in white (85 single crochet stitches across x 85 rows = a really long fucking time.) Then I cross stitch the gridded pattern over the top, and a back and sew it all up. And if anyone was wondering, we did make it into the pit at last week’s Springsteen show, and Rosie came out! It was awesome, thanks Bruce! Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

Yep, it’s true, that totally is an awesome crocheted Bruce Springsteen pilllow you are looking at, well sort of. My original goal was to have this pillow done by tonight’s Boss concert, but like all projects, they take about one million times longer than originally planned. Here is a picture of the tickets as proof that we are actually going. We’re trying a new stratedgy tonight, we’ve bought the general admission tickets and in about 2 hours are going to head over to the venue to wait in line, and try our chances at getting into the pit (as they call it). So here’s the sped up version of the pillow, after about 4 weeks of casual working on my pillow while working on the job, I finally make it to the point where I have a solid 18″ x 18″ background. Step 2. Let the cross stitching begin. It’s at this point that I’m not sure whether or not that after all this work this thing will really turn out or not. I cross stitch day and night and decide that I don’t think Bruce looks good with an afro. Step 3. I add more hair and more face, he is starting to look much more like himself. Step 4. It pretty much looks like him! Success. Darkness on the Edge of Town era Bruce Springsteen I love you! Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter
