Dudes! My front porch has been kind of magical lately. I should say, it’s always been magical, but now it’s really magical. If you’ve followed along, you know that I have always struggled when it comes to designing this space. The biggest challenge of course is the small size, it’s a front porch, so it’s tiny. It comes off about seven feet from the front of the house and is about 20 feet long, oh, and there is the entry to our house right in the middle of it. It’s been a difficult to find away to make the best use of the space. A few years back we added a round Docksta dining table to the smaller side of the space, which gave that area purpose. Before then, we just threw toys and other junk in large piles in that corner, now we actually eat a lot of meals out here during the summer, and we’ve been known to play a game or two. Just last night I sat around the table with my girlfriends (aka The She’Vaughns) as we planned for world domination. The table has been a good addition and I’m glad we divided the space into a dining/game zone and a sitting area. However, the sitting area has never been exactly right. We were struggling to put a lot of hand-me-down furniture into a very small space and what we needed to be doing was finding furniture to fit the space, not fitting furniture into the space. Seems obvious I guess, but as with most folks, there was always this whole budget thing we had to be mindful of, and ours was nonexistent. We had a lot of other projects to complete and budget for, before we could buy anything for a front porch. So we made them most of what we had, and I tied our rag tag group of furniture together with a bunch of accessories I like to call “Urban Cabin“. This all worked for a time too, and then it had it’s run. Finally we were ready to invest a little bit of dat cash money into the space. We’ve had the sofa for-ev-er. We purchased it new back in 2004 form Room and Board, as barely 24 year olds, it was the most expensive thing we had ever purchased. Three years ago we purchased new living room furniture and the sofa […]

Hey Guys! Here is a quick post that I wanted to share regarding this bentwood lamp from Target. The table lamps are on clearance right now for $30 bucks, and they are super easy to transform into sconces – in case you be needing a bentwood sconce. I just grabbed my jigsaw and chopped the bottom right off! After chopping the base off the lamps, I used a countersink drill bit to make a flush hole in the shank, and then screwed them directly to the wall. The sconces flank my vestibule and I put both of them on a timer, in the evenings the house looks really inviting from the street. Anyway, it’s easy, and pretty inexpensive, and I thought you might like to know about it :)

Hello! How’s it going? It’s been pretty alright around here. Spring is really in the air (although there is a cool down coming this week). We’ve been spending our weekends in the porch, and it has felt great, like wonderfully insanely great. I’ve got lots of little seedlings growing indoors, living things are popping up out of the ground, and just today the ice went out on a lot of the local lakes. Spring is by far my favorite time of year. Like I said last week, I’ve been itching to get at the front porch. I have a list of things that I’d like to do to take it to the next level of chillness. One of them includes getting leaves on the trees as that majorly changes the vibe, but since doing godly stuff isn’t in my wheelhouse I guess I’ll settle for buying stuff online. Last week I was able to score two Bertoia wire armchairs from Craigslist. The chairs were on my list, but I wasn’t really thinking I’d really be able to get them for a low price, then these babies just happened to pop up on my feed. The chairs aren’t in perfect condition, both have a little rust and one of them is slightly bent, but because it’s just for the porch it didn’t really matter that much. They are the perfect size for the small space, narrow and petit yet comfortable. Typically these chairs are sold with a pad, but this being craigslist and all, beggars can’t be choosers. A sheepskin works perfectly to save you from those wire imprints on your butt when you be wearing your summertime short shortz. I snagged the rug at Ikea, and I’m really happy with it, it covers the all-weather-carpet flooring almost perfectly. A question: What do you guys think about the blue paint color? I have mixed feelings about it, for one, it looks really great from the street but I worry that it is too pastel? Do you think white or light grey would look better? This one is really stumping me. I’m hoping to get another plant post out into the world before the weekend. Hope you guys are all having a cool week!

Ha, if you thought this post was about Minneapolis’ very own 90’s-indie-rock band, The Hidden Chord, I really got you fooled. Props to those who got the very obscure reference, to the majority of you who have no idea what I am talking about, I sincerely apologize. This post is actually about hiding unsightly cords and cables. Okay, okay, so I’m not reinventing the wheel or anything, you guys probably know all about products that make it easy to disguise your cords. Cable upkeep is often overlooked and just happened to be one of the last things on my sunroom-makeover to-do list. Since it’s cold, grey and still not springy out, I took I’d take it upon myself to finish this one last task while at the same time reminding you all to put cord tidying on your spring to-do list. I’m sure you never noticed these cords in my sunroom photos I shared two weeks ago, that’s because my photographs are just lies. LIES! I hide all that ugly stuff in secret hiding spots or sometimes, gasp, I even photoshop them out. If you guys even knew the truth. For instance in my living room, there is a piece of artwork that is not centered on the wall – instead of taking out a hammer and nail and centering the frame like a normal person would, I photoshop it into place every single time I share photos of my living room with you. I am such a liar, you guys! Sometimes living the lie just seems easier and more convenient then facing facts, manning up and tidying up my space. I promise, I’ll hide the cords and yes, I’ll even get out my hammer and a nail and adjust the artwork on the living room wall. Sheesh. Okay, so if you’ve never used these cable channels before they are really easy to install. They come in different sizes and shapes. Above I am using a quarter round and a half round style from D-Line. The quarter round gives you the option of trimming out baseboard moldings as a way to super-sneaklily-disguise your cords and cables. Almost all of the products on the market these days are paintable too, so it makes it really easy to hide away your technological mess. I picked up these white channels at my local hardware store. The installation is very basic. All you have […]

Guys! I did it! I finally pulled the sunroom together, and I think it looks pretty awesome! After living in our house for four years it finally feels like we are starting to put our stamp on the spaces in our home. The sunroom was the latest such adventure. Decorating a home is a very slow process, though super rewarding and satisfying. Much of the first four years have been spent putting things together and giving the home a vibe that read ‘us’. We’ve spent a little money, but overall have been pretty frugal when it comes to decorating. The bulk of our money has been spent on projects that had a big pay off, like painting the house. Now it feels like we are entering the next stage of living in a home (the second layer, if you will) where we can start to dig into the details of each space to make sure it truly represents us aesthetically, consistently and cohesively. We’ve been able to really get used to our spaces over the years. We know how they currently function and how we would like them to actually function. Some spaces still need improving and tweaking. Our bedroom for example, still consists of college furniture and a mattress on a bed frame – it looks ‘pretty’ but still needs a lot of work. We are now ready to dive in a little deeper and begin to make rooms functional and decorate them with purpose. I’m excited to be able to start focusing our decor dollars, and I think the sunroom makeover are the beginnings steps of addressing that second layer – four years deep. Our porch wasn’t bad before, it really wasn’t. I thought it was cute and cozy, but it still didn’t function very well and because of that we barely used it. It’s a really good example of that first layer of decorating — pulling random furniture together with a few repeating design elements to try and make a cohesive look. Although it photographs nicely, it didn’t feel as comfortable in real life and because of that we rarely used this potentially super cool room. These are the limitations a lot of people encounter when trying to furnish and pull together a home; most of us are not made of money and these compromises have to be made. The sofa was re-covered in an old curtain […]

Hey guys! So you remember how I got all smitten with that rug a few weeks back? If you remember, I wasn’t exactly sold on it – I knew I was just crushing on it. Usually if there is something that I think looks really great, and costs a little bit of cheddar (that’s still super cool to say, right?) I usually just wait it out. Why? I wait to see if I really do love it, if I just can’t stop thinking about it, if it’s the only thing I can imagine in the space, and then if I still love it months down the road we budget for it, and then buy it. In this situation I did not do that. I had been wanting to add bits of salmon and coral to the room, but I couldn’t really come up with a solution for the most effective way of doing it. I thought about adding coral pillows on the sofa that I newly reupholstered, but coral against the navy sofa was a lot of color in one very specific place. The coral needed to be part of the room, not part of the couch, you feel me? I’m pretty sure that the Torres rug has been available at West Elm for awhile, the thing is, I never needed a coral rug, so I never noticed it. Then one day I was flipping through my new catalog, and wham, there it was, The Torres Kilim rug in “Guava”. So I thought about it, I blogged about it, and then I realized it was on sale. I called West Elm to see what their return policy was on rugs, I found out I could return it to the store. If I ordered it the worst possible thing that could happen would be that I just didn’t like the rug. So I ordered it, just like that. I am so living on the edge, you guys! It took me a few days to roll it out and see what it looked like in the room. I was a little leery, I really did like the cream shag rug that was in the sunroom already, it was something I already owned and didn’t specifically buy it for this room, so it’s basically like it was free. I so badly wanted coral in the room and I was gonna give it a […]

Yo, Dawgz! Just wanted to check in and give you guys an update on the sunroom project. First of all, I am totally stoked about the progress on this little room, so forgive me, I’m pretty eager to share the tiniest changes with you. I told you guys a few weeks ago, that along with upholstering the little sofa, that I also wanted to add a “Fauxdenza” to the narrow wall in the sunroom. The floor is sloped (the sunroom used to be an open air porch, and the sloped floor allowed for drainage) and I needed to add a very functional piece of furniture that didn’t take up a lot of visual weight. Duh, Fauxdenza = the ideal solution. In case you haven’t been getting the play-by-play over on Instagram here is the story. On Monday night I took a trip to Ikea, purchasing a handful of things including; 2 of the Akurum 36″ x 15″ cabinet boxes and 4 of the Applåd cabinet doors. This is my 3rd time installing Ikea cabinets, so the whole process comes pretty easily to me, and you know I ruled it like a bawse. Ikea really does make it simple. Finn (my 5 year old) and I started assembling the two box cabinets around 9am, we had the rail mounting system installed by 9:45 and the cabinet doors were on by 10:30! Talk about a big transformation in a little bit of time, at least I think so. If you want to get your fauxdenza on, and need a few more details, check out Morgan’s process over at The Brick House. This little room is quickly becoming one of my favorite rooms in the house and I think I’m going to try and make a habit out of spending at least an hour a day in this sunny space. It makes me super happy to sit in the sun and enjoy all of my green things – hopefully it won’t be long before I can crack the windows too. We have a small TV that my parents borrowed to me a year ago (whoops) that I put in the sunroom, I connected it to a Roku and an attena and now I can watch Kathie Lee and Hoda to my hearts content – what who doesn’t need a little KLG and Hoda in the morning? We also have plans of purchasing a […]

Hey Guys! Look, I did it! I upholstered the crap out of the sunroom sofa, and it looks so good! I was pretty intimidated by this project but I am really glad I took a chance and went for it. This was my first ever upholstery project. Sewing does not come naturally for me, and measuring always intimidates me, so I had two good reasons to be nervous about diving into this project. It was something that had to be done though, just look at the sofa before (below) – pretty retro and not in a good way. For those of you who don’t know. I have recently taken on the project of making the porch/sunroom off of our master bedroom a place that we actually want to hang out in. This room sold us on the house, and here we are four years later and it’s basically an eye sore that we try and avoid. The space itself is wonderful – bright, sunny and airy. It’s downside is that it’s small and has been on the bottom of the priority list when it comes to furnishing it. When we moved we had no design direction for the room, and were in need of furniture. We purchased a few things all willy-nilly-like on craigslist. One of them being this midcentury sofa for $100 – it was the perfect size for the room so I give us credit for that. It is narrow enough to fit nicely in the room without over powering it, the downside was that it was covered in tan and blue faux leather. I always knew that I was going to reupholster it, I just didn’t think it would take me four years. I want to make this room a place we hang out in god damn it! It’s so nice, and sunny, and wonderful, and it would probably do me well to enjoy and hour in here during these winter months. I get the winter SAD pretty bad – and they say sunlight is the best medicine for that sort of thing. I need this room in my life! So I took a deep breath and dove in tackling the biggest project on this porch to-do list. Over the last few days I have spent time measuring and cutting out fabric, assembling, sewing, tearing apart, re-sewing and taking trips to the fabric store (*side note, where […]

Hey-O! Happy July Guys! It’s finally here! I wanted to share with you some of the small changes I’be been making in the front porch on my mission to achieve “Urban Cabin“. I am getting more and more used to the old living room sofa out here on the front porch. I was having a hard time saying goodbye to our old loved blue wicker sofa, but really it didn’t take that long to realize this was the better option. Besides adding the old living room sofa to the porch, I have also purchased a few cool items that I shared with you in last weeks “Urban Cabin” post. We got crazy and splurged and bought the resin stags head from a shop on etsy. Normally, resin stag heads with color dipped antlers would not be something I was into, it’s just a little too trendy. However, I think it’s screams “Urban Cabin”, so I had to! I also finally got around to hanging up some of the woodsy artwork and paint-by-numbers paintings that I’ve been collecting. Although I do like the new/old sofa in the porch, I don’t like the way it looks with tanish all purpose carpet (kinda gross). Someday I would like to pull out the carpet (it’s glued down) and tile the floor. The carpet is laid on top of concrete, so I suppose we could always paint the floor too and put down cool braided rugs. Who knows, these are all just fantasies for right now. I’ve trying to get together a solid collection of comfy pillows too. I’ve got a few good ones but I also have a few bad ones. I’m in need of some cooler vintage textiles. Instead of finding everything online, I’m gonna keep my eyes peeled for some cool pillows and blankets at garage sales this summer. It will all come to me in time. I can’t tell you how much we are enjoying having a dining room table in the porch, I wish we would’ve done this a long time ago. The round table is the perfect shape and size for this space, a square or rectangle would not have worked. The space is so tight, and oddly shaped. You need a table that you can move around, and a round table is really the only option. I had my eye on the Docksta table from Ikea table but […]

Hey guys, it’s me: your resident urban cabin enthusiast. I’ve been hung up on this “urban cabin” idea for awhile now. I’m sure you’ve heard me talk about it, but maybe I’ve never exactly explained the concept. First of all, let’s talk about the term “cabin” – or as some Wisconsin people like to say: “cottage”. The cabin is a place that all of us Midwesterners know and love. Not trying to exclude other genres of locality here, but this is a very Midwestern thing. Here in Minnesota we live in the land of 10,000 lakes, ya know. When you go to a cabin, you’re not really going to a shack in the woods. You’re going to a lake with a house on it. There’s usually at least one boat there, if not more, and you usually spend most of that time on, in, or near the water. The making of a day at the cabin: Your day starts off slowly. Usually sometime around noon you will partake in long, leisurely breakfasts full of salty and delicious foods and lots of different breakfast cocktails. Post-breakfast you’re feeling pretty cool – so cool that you may even decide to take a nap, or chill in a hammock. There’s nothing to do here but hang, guys. That’s all life asks of you. Before you know it the pontoon is full of snacks and portable cocktails, and your buddies tell you it’s time to hop aboard. Bring your hat cause you’ll be out for hours; there are chains of lakes up here, and they don’t stop. Boating is not just a ride along a shore line. It’s a slow adventure that goes on and on. Around sunset you’ll be arriving home, if you didn’t nap after breakfast, you will definitely be napping now. Don’t worry, it’s only sundown but no one cares, go ahead take a nap. You’ll head off to your cozy room feeling numb and warm. Don’t sleep too long, because you might just miss the late night dinner feast that’s coming your way. Dinner is always delicious and the jokes are usually especially good. Now here’s the one hard part: it might be your turn to do the dishes. Shucks, really? Just stop whining and do it already, because when you’re done, you can celebrate your hard work by playing cards, listening to some jams and taking a late, late […]

Old, New Sofa Guys, I’ve only been talking about it for like 9 months, but our new living room sofa is being delivered tomorrow!!! I’m so excited, I can barely stand it. And although I’m so excited about the new living room furniture, I’m a little sad about replacing the porch sofa with the old living room sofa, and saying goodbye to the current wicker porch couch. My emotions have gotten the best of me and I now have a sofa dilemma on my hands; does the old living room sofa make it’s home on the new porch, or do I stick with the good ol’ funny porch sofa? We’ve been “surviving” in the porch with a hand-me-down white wicker sofa. The blue cushioned wicker sofa with white polka dots came to live with us in 2008 after living the first 7 years of it’s life on my parents back porch. At first our relationship was strictly utilitarian; we needed a place to sit while hanging on the porch. Then, somehow I began to love that weird misshapen sofa. Spending pregnant afternoons with Finn, taking spring naps in the sun, and staying up way too late with good buddies all happened on that porch couch. Yes, the cushions are attached to the sofa with duct tape and industrial strength velcro so they don’t slide around, yes, when you sit there long enough the metal brace supporting the wicker starts to dig into your butt and leaves you temporarily paralyzed from the waist down, and yes, the cushions are speckled with kids stains, and are more faded then Keith Richards. So, whats a a girl do when she’s fallen in love with the memories of an old blue sofa? Old, Old Sofa I guess I’m looking for reassurance and a reality check, the “New Old Sofa” if obviously better and more comfortable than the “Old, Old Sofa”, right? It’s time to say goodbye, isn’t it? What would you do? I can’t be the only one that has an emotional relationship with a piece of furniture, can I?

Guys! I’m moving full steam ahead with the spring even if the weather isn’t. That being said, I got a new table for the porch last night, and I played cribbage on it, drank a beer, and listened to the Twins game while wearing my coat. It felt good! I am so excited about this table, let me tell you why. You know I love my porch, it is hands down our favorite place in the house. I never thought I would love 400 square feet of space only usable for part of the year so GD much, but I do. For as much as I love gushing over furniture and decor, I’ve never tried to put a look together in the porch. It’s such a hodge podge of hand me downs. The sofa is white wicker with royal blue cushions, the coffee table is from our college days and I’ve added our modern Burke (I think) tulip arm chairs for extra seating. The only thing I’ve ever really given a lot of thought to is adding a table for the corner of our porch. There are two sections of the porch separated by the front door and vestibule. We always hang out on the wicker sofa side (soon to be the old living room sofa side). There is a whole other side of the porch that we leave unused, a total waste of valuable porch square footage. Jeff and I have recently realized that we want the porch to be our own mini cabin in the city, we’ve even dubbed it “urban cabin”. We want it to encompass the chill vibes of being at a northern Minnesota cabin. We’ve already started collecting vintage cabin artwork, as well as old quilts and pillows to have ready for urban cabin sofa naps (or snuggling under when the spring is 30º cooler than it should be). Another thing we’ve recently added to maximize urban cabin vibes; an apple airport express modem that we can run through the stereo to play all our favorite jams while hanging on the porch. We can even stream our favorite urban-cabin-classis-rock radio station, KQRS, for that true up-north feel. So, I’ve been trucking around a set of four Burke tulip chairs for a few years, I really, really like them. Even though they are knock off Saarinen style chairs, they still feel very iconic. I’ve wanted to […]

Hello out there! MAN, I’ve been sick again, this is twice in one month and this time I was miserable and the kids were miserable too. I’m finally starting to feel better today. Being sick has really had an effect on my October to-do list. Holy moly. Nothing is getting done. I did manage to get my fern inside before the frost came. Jeff hates this fern, HATES it. Because why would you like something that brings life and greenery into your house? I understand that the size of this fern has gotten out of control, it nearly touches the floor when I hang it in the porch off our bedroom. For real, it must be four feet in length. It was starting to get a little brown because I wasn’t a diligent waterer this summer and sometimes Jeff grilled right underneath where it was hanging in the backyard (an accident?, I think not). So it got a hair cut in a major way. Mostly this was an attempt to avoid a future fern assassination. Who hates plants anyways? Have a heart Jeff, geez. The fern last fall

So I took my own advice and dove right into a new project after realizing I haven’t been doing anything lately. My bathroom is halfway painted and it’s a GD bathroom. It should take me about two seconds to paint but instead I am procrastinating like nobody’s business, I mean COME ON SCOOPS! I have a whole list of things I need to be gettin’ done before the fall, but instead, I’m finding excuses all over the place. One of the things on my list was to add a nice little dining/game table to the porch. You know me too, I have bajillions of chairs around the house because I hoard them. I was originally going to use my knock off tulip chairs and match them with a Docksta table from Ikea (hopefully found on craigslist) but then after realizing that the chairs were way to big for that small space I went straight to my chair stash. I have a set of 4 oak chairs in a “country gothic” style. I know, they are really weird. They were the dining room chairs that we had in the house growing up, I’ve known them all my life! When I was on the verge of moving into my first apartment my mom offered them to me. Since then they’ve moved around a bit. I loaned them to my friend Matt, he had them for a few years and then they made a home with his ex-girlfriend. Somehow, they made there way back to me when she moved to New York a couple of years back. Anyways they’ve been in my garage ever since and I can’t bare to get rid of them. I have no idea where these chairs actually originated from. My mom said that she got them from her Grandma’s neighbor when she was in 8th grade and eventually stripped and refinished them around the same time she married my dad. She supposes they came from Sears Roebuck, but I’m not buying this story. They look handmade to me, as none of them are the same size. If you rollover the image above you can see how the unpainted version isn’t the exact same dimensions as the painted one. Anyway, back to the story. I was looking for something to use as a porch dining set. It needed to be small and compact, I decided to resurrect these chairs […]

It won’t be long before I am in full on outdoor and garden mode, I’m warning ya. So with these last few days before the official warm weather sets in I’ve been shoring up some indoor projects. One of the pressing projects on my to-do list is to repair the stone wall in our front porch. Its paint has been starting to peel for awhile now and now is constantly shedding all over the floor. The older kids know they are not supposed to touch it, but no matter how many times I tell Gus, he just doesn’t get it (stupid baby). I can only assume that there is lead paint in some of these chipping layers. After much deliberation we decide the best way to handle it is to scrape away the loose paint only. Stripping is way too hard and messy, and sanding is not an option. I want the minimal amount of paint-dust airborne as humanely possible. So we lightly scrape. Unfortunately, the scraping leaves deep gorges in the surface of the porch, but I don’t really mind, I’ll just chalk it up to character. The next step is to prime and paint the porch. Honestly, I really have no idea why I decided primer and paint would be the correct solution to this problem. It just made the most sense to me to prime it, as to protect it from moisture and to seal in the bad stuff. Then finish it off with two coats of paint just like any other project. I had the paint matched at the hardware store, and it’s a pretty close, lucky for me. That saves me from painting the pillars and all the other woodwork around the windows. My hope is that now that the old paint is sealed up tight that the chipping paint will cease and I won’t have to worry about slowly poisoning my kids. If in another year or so it starts to chip again, I’ll just have to repeat the process. I think it’s the safest way to go when dealing with this hazardous paint business. Other projects I’m trying to finish up: &#9660 Painting the bedroom &#9660 Repairing marred doors in the bedroom &#9660 Painting the window sashes in the bedroom &#9660 Stripping the paint from the door hardware &#9660 Replacing the sash locks and handles

We’ve spent the last two weekends spiffing up our porch (which takes a long time these days because we move very slowy) and here are the final results! I blogged a few posts back about how I was going to redo our most beloved porch for less than a $100 bones. To refresh your memory, here is the before and here is the mood board. The biggest change the room is the new paint color, we went from a flesh colored peach that matched the floors to this nice and calm light turquoise which complements the rest of the colors on the main floor of the house. The hardest part of the project was by far sitting on my hands and trying to keep my mouth shut while I watched Jeff try at his first attempts at cutting in. This is ALWAYS my job but with my 9 month pregnant belly it was just not happening. I’ll be up on that ladder first thing after that baby gets here though. Finn and I picked up some red pillow covers for $6.00 a piece from our favorite Ikea and were able to freshen up that old wicker sofa just a little bit. Not a lot has changed furniture wise, we weren’t spending mucho dinero on this re-do so we had to focus on making the accessories cohesive and fun and not worry about the big stuff like the coffee table or couch. I grabbed my spaghetti string glassware set out of the buffet to set the scene for the coffee table, normally this pitcher would be filled with Margarita’s instead of just boring old water. Some of the inspiration from the room came from these planters that I picked up this spring at my local garden store. Would you ever think that blue is not my favorite color? And somehow I end up painting everything in my house in shades of turquoise teal blue. Here you can see how the space all works together. It’s long and narrow and a little hard to drop furniture into but this is how it goes. One the one side we have the more used hang out area with couch, coffee table and ledge seating. It is also home to our vintage console record player. Then you can see that offset from the “living area” we have the vestibule all decked out with my beloved […]

So I started a new project, I know I am crazy, but this nesting bug has got the best of me. In a fit of “I can’t stand it anymore” I spontaneously grabbed a gallon of Aqua Pura paint last week on my way through the home depot as an attempt to commit myself to my next project; spiffing up the porch before the new baby comes. I can say without a doubt that the porch is the heart of our home in the summertime. There’s not a morning before, evening after work or weekend that we don’t spend hanging on our front porch. Being that the porch has become such a central part of our lives I feel like it needs more attention than we have given it. It is currently a mishmash of hand-me-down furniture and toys, all engulfed by the ugliest fleshiest color of paint you could ever imagine. It is definitely not getting the love it so deserves. Now for my plan: My objective is to spend $100 or less on making our porch a little more quaint, a little more fresh, and a lot less sloppy. The $25 gallon of paint will be the biggest improvement on this space. As you can see from first above photo, the peachy colored walls from the previous owners are just not cutting it. This light turquoise paint will add some airiness and freshness and will complement the rest of the main floor living spaces. To accent the blue paint I have picked up a few pillow covers at Ikea in red ($6.00/cover) and a light blue ($1.99/pillow). The bare walls aren’t helping anything either, as a solution I will add a shallow white shelf ($9.99) to use as a place for holding the records that currently find their home piled up on the floor (we have a small record player out in the porch). The record shelf will also add aesthetic function as a place to display our rotating collection of album artwork. I also purchased two shadow box style ($9.99/frame) photo frames from Ikea to display my growing stash of instagram kid prints. De-cluttering the kid stuff will be an easy, free solution to tidying the place up. The toy corner will be replaced by a small toy box (cause we can’t get rid of all the toys) and 2 Saarinen style chairs that I have been […]
