What better way to celebrate mom’s birthday than a delicious brunch. I think we can all agree the breakfast is the best meal you could ever eat so I did it up big for mom’s bday. Here’s the stats:Homemade Coffee CakeCarmel Rolls from scratchEgg BakeFruitDelicious Bacon from Everett’sAnd Scoops Famous Potatoes Have you ever made coffee cake from scratch? This was my first, and I realize that there is no other way to have a coffee cake unless you bake it yourself. So GOOD! I followed this recipe on epicurious and ended up with the most delicious coffee cake ever. My son now thinks he should have “Cake” for breakfast every day of the week. These things looked pretty awesome but only turned out OKAY. Not enough carmel!!!, I mean what’s the point? Seriously? My mom is one of the lucky ones who get’s to enjoy peony’s at every birthday. My new yard came equiped with one large peony bush that only wanted to make one small flower. These beauties came straight from the grocery store… Insert sad face here. And as promised, a fancy knit dishcloth. I followed this pattern from this very thorough and indepth dish-cloth-pattern site. So there you have it… mom’s birthday in a nut shell. Share this...
OMG I did it, I did it. I got so bored I finally went and found a new project. I am officially back on the knitting wagon. After a few months of fixing up our house and starting new gardens I couldn’t fight the urge to make something. I just found an awesome dishcloth pattern (as far as dishcloth patterns go) and bought some yarn. I am in full on dishcloth mode, yep that’s right, so you better watch out. Everyone better be expecting to get at least one dishcloth. This is for serious. Maybe next I’ll make you potholders… you never know. Here is an example of the goodsphoto from tehrimon on flickr Anyone want to join me? Here is a link to the pattern Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

So yeah, I just finished this pair of grey mittens. What can I say, work has been slow and I’ve had a lot of time on my hands (punny, ha!) and so far I haven’t thought of any knitted items to make that would be appropriate for summer wear. However, I will now be mos def be prepared for the winter. Excellent (said in the voice of Wayne Campbell.) If anyone else is interested in keeping their hands busy you can stop by freevintageknitting.com and whip up your own pair. Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

Yay Me! I finally finished these socks!!! Wooohooo. I started the beauties back in November, got off track with other holiday knitting projects and finally I finished them last night. I do love these socks — they look amazing. They are actually too cool. I might have to wear some sort of skirt or something horrible in order to show them off. I am noticing that I somehow made the toes a little differently. I guess I should’ve taken notes while I was making my first sock, but I don’t think I anticipated it taking me almost 4 months to finish. I used a pattern from the book “Knitting Vintage Socks” by Nancy Bush. If anyone out there is interested in making socks or already makes socks but wants some cool patterns to use, please pick up this book. It is awesome. Right now I never want to knit another sock again, BUT I can not resist wanting to knit up all the patterns in this book. So here are the details:Pattern: Child’s First Sock (In Shell Pattern) from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy BushYarn: Koigu Premium Merino in MustardNeedles: Size 1 View of the shell pattern from the side. The heel and bottom. I am so happy to be done! In other news, you may have noticed that we changed our domain name. We are now officially www.deucecitieshenhouse.com.
So this is the stuff I have slowly been working on, I thought maybe if I posted something about it I’d give my self inspiration and motivation to finish it because I don’t know how else I’m gonna do it. These granny squares are destined to become a new pillow for my couch IF I ever finish them. I started my squares because I missed the ease and the speed of crocheting, now I have a new project on my hands. I do heart me some granny squares though. Always and Forever. For the holidays I made two pair of mittens, one pair for Colez and one pair for my Dad. I was jealous of these mittens and wanted to keep them all for myself. Now I am trying to make a pair for myself and what do you know… I can’t finish them. So far I have one mitten down and one to go. And lastly, the sock I used to love is the sock I now hate. I had one of these babies done in October, yes October, I know right? It’s been a long time. At the beginning of January I started the second of what will be two beautiful socks but every time I pick up the needles it is torture. I just want it to be over, soon. Share this...
Part of my December’s blog absence is due to these beauties right here. I’m pretty sure as of December 24th I kind of hated knitting. I’ve been non-stop working on these cranberry socks for my dear old mom’s Christmas gift. The pattern is called “Child’s French Sock” and is from my favorite sock book, Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. It should be noted that this is currently also Finn’s favorite book, as the two words he can say very clearly are “Sock” and “Book” so it works out well for him. Let’s not forget about Dad, I whipped these up over a couple of days and they are awesome and warm. Found the pattern HERE. Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

I just realized I never blogged my first pair of socks. Well here they are! Another goal to check off the old bucket list, I am officially now a knitter of socks. Here’s my feet enjoying my new socks. In other sock news, I am currently working on two different pairs. See the truth is, knitting socks can get kind of boring, so I needed to do two different pairs at once in order to make my brain not go crazy. I am working more patterns from the Knitting Vintage Socks book, just like I said I would do. This is the pattern for “Gentleman’s Plain Winter Sock”. In this instance this sock(s) will be worn by this gentlelady. And lastly, the other sock I am working on is this awesome yellow one. I have heart eyes for this pattern. Again, this pattern is from Knitting Vintage Socks and is called “Child’s First Sock in Shell Pattern” FYI: this sock is hard and can only be worked on at home in peace and quiet. I am a newbie when it comes to knitting and I need all the mind concentration I can muster when it comes to working this this “difficult” pattern. Share this...
I am so proud of these socks, they are 2nd pair I’ve made, and they are so awesome. This pattern is found in the Knitting Vintage Socks book by Nancy Bush. There are at least 5 other patterns I’d like to make in that book, so I will be busy making socks for awhile. Next on the docket, “Child’s First Sock”, in a really sweet Koigu mustard colored yarn.
I’ve been bitten by the sock making bug, good thing winter’s coming soon. I’ve purchased three kinds of yarn and plan to get sock making asap. Anyways if you don’t see me around the internetwebmachine for a few days, you know where I’ll be. I can’t wait to make these into Child’s First Sock from “Knitting Vintage Socks“ Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

This is my first attempt at knitting a pair of socks. I started with a simple ribbed pattern because I don’t need anything too complex to blow my mind. In this photo: the calm before the storm. I’m starting the heel next and who knows, it could all go straight to hell. I am a sucker for anything green. Share this...
