Hey! I’m back for part two of my office refresh. Redesigning my office space was part of my plan for a fresh start to the New Year. I wanted to start 2020 on the right foot, and for me a big part of that was getting my office space whipped into shape. I had given it an update a few years ago, but I’ve learned since then that the functionally the space wasn’t working for me, and it wasn’t inspiring. There was a lack of storage and things I used on a regular basis seemed to pile up. It was necessary that I create a system to keep my office clean, uncluttered and inspiring.

I wanted to start 2020 off on the right foot, and I was in need of an office refresh. A few years back I carved out my own little office in an unlikely space spot in our home. We have this really cool 4 season sunroom off of our bedroom, I’m pretty sure that when the house was built around the turn-of-the-20th century, the sunroom was intended to be a screened in sleeping porch for hot summer nights. In a more recent remodel (my guess is within the last twenty years) it was insulated and outfitted with new windows...

I wasn’t kidding around about the goals I set for myself for 2020 – I really want to give it my all and push myself to post twice a week. I figure if I don’t really try, I won’t know if it’s possible. Worst case scenario, I figure out what my limits are and I go from there. To start the year off on the right foot, I wanted to give my office/workspace a refresh. It’s been awhile since I shared it with you. These photos are from 2016 and it’s change a bit since then, but not in like a completed sort-of-a-way, but more like a half-assed sort of away....

Hey-O! How’s everybody doing out there? Things are pretty good here! The kids are getting really good at playing Minecraft and eating junk, I really couldn’t be prouder. Meanwhile, The husband and I are figuring out our groove now that he’s working from home. He’s been very busy, and it makes me feel like a big slacker – like I’d give up my afternoon nap just cuz he’s around. Anywho, we are succeeding at being people who are at home all day. I’ve been meaning to get this blog post out for weeks, and have been sitting on these photos for just as long. I was just waiting for the right moment to dive in and share this office/music space with you. If you’ve been reading for awhile, you’ll remember that we have a small “extra” room on our main floor tucked behind our dining room. I would imagine that it was probably some sort of room for the help back in the olden days. There is no closet, so it’s technically not a bedroom, and like I said it’s tiny, and located right near the dining room and kitchen. I’d lock up the maid in there. For the last six or so years, the room has been functioning as a dedicated space for our record and musical instrument collections, we flexed our brain muscles and have been calling it (wait for it)… “the music room“. Flash forward to early this fall when the husband landed a new job in which he has to work from home. Now the music room needs to also function as an office. In a way this is a not a bad thing, besides the record collection, (which Jeff and I both maintain), the rest of the stuff is all his music gear – so making this space a dedicated office for HIM and HIS stuff, isn’t the dumbest idea. Our house is decent sized, but it’s not ginormous with tons of room. We had two options were to set up his work space, in the middle bedroom on the second floor, or squeeze him into the music room in the quiet corner of our main floor. I still think that one of these days, one of our kids will want to live in that middle bedroom, so music room it is. Figuring out how to incorporate a rather larger vinyl collection, finding a space […]

Dudez, I never intended for it to be such a long absence here on the blog. I’ll start by saying that this has probably been the craziest few months of our lives. We were finally settling in with the West Wisco cabin, when Jeff was offered his dream position at a new company located right on the banks of Lake Tahoe, in C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A. I’ll save you some suspense and let you know that we are not re-locating. He is taking the new job though, after much soul searching and many, many late night conversations, we decided that it was time for him to make the move, say goodbye to his much loved company, and set out on a new adventure. Today marks his first day at the new job and he will be commuting between here and CA for the next six weeks or so, after that he’ll be working from home with week-long trips to California every month. Scary. Different. Nuts. We spent the last 10 days preparing for the change. He had added a cushion for a tiny bit of “vacation time” between the new job and the old. The kids started school two weeks ago, and everything seems like it has been sitting in limbo while we have been waiting for him to start his new pozish. All very new and exciting, but super crazy and a little terrifying. For the first time in 9 years I have days to myself where I don’t have to drive a kid anywhere! For reference, I had spent the last three years driving somewhere between 2-3 hours a day, whilst also trying to get a bunch of other shit done. Finn and Gus both started school last week and they take THE BUS. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this new excess of time and freedom (?). Just two weeks ago, I thought it would be just me here all day in this house, but now I’m going to have the husband-dude working from home right when I was supposed to be entering to my new zen mom time. We need to get this guy a dedicated office with a door, stat. TODAY is my first official day of no-kids and no-husband (for the next few weeks). Luckily I have a new project for the house and I’ll be spending a good chunk of my time designing and […]
