Hey Guys, I wanted to share with you this quick, easy and cool invitation that Finn and I made last week for his birthday party. This invitation is cool for a few reasons, for one it looks awesome. Secondly it’s pretty easy, and requires little to no artistic skill. It is quickly made with a straight edge ruler, and it doesn’t take a lot of time, or cost a lot of money. Do you remember making graphs like this in elementary school and connecting the marks? Does this thing even have a name? Help a lady out here if you know! Finn and I used an A2 size note card. We found the center of the card and then made a horizontal and vertical line. Too make this pattern work make sure to grid out an odd number of marks. In this example we did 17 vertical marks and 17 horizontal. The 9th mark was the center mark both vertically and horizontally leaving 8 marks in every direction from the center outward. We marked out the grid using a distance of a 1/4 of an inch per dash and then began to connect the marks. The method is easy. Draw a line from the furthest out vertical mark to the most inner horizontal mark. Keep repeating this going to the next farthest and inner mark every time. Change colors for every new layer of marks and you will have this cool diamond weave effect! Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

I just got this year’s holiday cards back from Minted!! This is the 3rd time I’ve used minted.com to make our cards, and I totally LOVE them. Let me give you some perspective, I am chronic non-holiday-card-sender-outer. Out of the 13 holiday’s I’ve had since splitting* with my folks (aka moving out), 9 of which I’ve spent married, and 5 of those with kids, I’ve only sent out holiday cards 3 times. I know, I totally suck and I am the worst. Not only do I fail at sending out cards, I am also very opinionated about the cards that I don’t send out. Herein lies the problem. I could never buy stationery off the shelf, I just couldn’t. I need a well designed holiday card on lush paper, (I’m such a total snob, right?). I guess I might as well just make my own. “Oh what’s that you say internet?, try minted you’ll like it?” No way! And then it happened, minted came around and made it easy for me to make super cool holiday cards. With an assortment of stationery to suit all types of styles it becomes hard to choose your favorite. Not only do they have the best designed stationery in town, they have the best paper stock to boot. Even the standard introductory level paper is totally thick and luxe and the inks are top notch and rich in color. I’ve got a total paper boner guys (eeew)! I’m gonna keep going here cause I’m on a roll, can we talk about customizing? You can customize the bejesus out of these things, from typefaces to envelope liners, folded note cards or flat, even skinny wrap address labels and free address printing. The cards just look amazing! Minted transforms your run of the mill holiday photo cards from flimsy print outs to tactile artifacts to share with your friends and fam at the holiday’s. What could be better, right? And if you need just one more reason to give minted a try how about this… Besides just making awesome stationery they also support independent graphic designers who make commission on the designs they submit. So great! Love this place forever. *Totally love my folks P.S. Got these tyte personalized kid stamps over at zazzle.com to top it off, if they didn’t cost almost twice as much as regular stamps I’d have all my stamps be kid […]

This weekend I cranked out some invitations for my friend Cam’s baby shower that I will be hosting in May. I’m super happy with how they turned out. I was totally inspired by Shanna Murray’s decal illustrations. I knew from the get go I wanted the party to involve a lot of handmade elements and I thought I’d start by penning the invitations in my own handwriting. Plus I had just ordered a bunch of washi tape for no other reason then to hoard polka-dots and stripes. It needed to be put to use. I pulled out my old gocco printer out and went to town. I’m getting pretty proficient with this printer, it used to terrify me. Mostly because the screens and bulbs were so expensive, but now I’m an old veteran. I’ve got mad gocco skillz. I tucked the invites in an inner 5×7 glassine sleeve. I love making correspondence and I wanted these to feel special and delicate. Can’t get enough of the polka dots these days. I whole heartedly blame Annie Larson and Crystal Quinn. I rounded the edges of the invite with a corner rounder. Do you have one of these? I highly recommend one, they make even the simplest correspondence seem special. I also printed on the front of the front of the envelope with hot pink banner and then hand addressed all of them in white ink. I think this might be my favorite part. The back of the envelope, printed with return address and sealed tight with black and white striped washi tape. Put a strip of washi tape on it. duh. Share this...
Yep, We’ve got new Valentine’s in the Etsy store and these ones are pretty great. Printed with super Hot Pink & Metallic Gold ink they kinda rule, seriously, how could you go wrong? The abbreviation on the front could stand for Happy Valentines Day, or, it could stand for any of the following; Herpes Vulva Dong Happy Venereal Disease Hot Vajayjay Dookie Huge Virtual Dong Hilarious Vagina Dicks (my favorite) Humping Very Daintily Okay, I’m spent, this is harder than it looks. Here’s another pic and the details. This single, screen printed valentine card comes complete with a coordinating kraft paper envelope. The inside of this cards is left blank, and is just waiting a special, or not so special message for your sweetie . The note card is A2 size (4.25″ x 5.5″) and packaged in a cellophane bag for protection. Please order soon, so that I can get these sweeet thangs to you by V-Day. Share this...
We celebrated Elsa’s 2nd birthday this past Saturday. It is insane how fast these kiddos grow! It really does seem like yesterday that Aaron and I were bringing this little sweetie baby home from the hospital. Elsa’s has recently decided that she is obsessed with balloons. It made sense that her party center around this obsession. I ordered up 40 balloons and sent Rip to pick them up the morning of the party. I would have ordered more but transporting any more balloons from the party store to our house would have logistically been a bit more difficult than it already was. Evidently Rip had some concern about how he was going to fit said 40 balloons into his car. Not to worry, they all made it home and Elsa was tickled. I found a paper party crown kit at Paper Source. Here they are! King and Queen of the party! I pulled up a couple of recipes from Smitten Kitchen to fill out my party spread. Check out how I made these homemade marshmallows and super delish strawberry cake. Elsa has replaced her desire to watch Toy Story 3 over and over and over again with a desire to watch the British stop motion animation Shaun the Sheep over and over and over and over again. Shaun made an appearance at the party. Elsa thought that was pretty awesome! Other gifts of note: A Purple Princes Papazan Chair. (Say that 5 times fast.) A sweet ass wagon for her and Finn to buzz around in. A killer slide for the backyard. The Dads Choice award for Best Present goes to this Alligator Sprinkler that Finn brought for Elsa. Jeff and Rip had the best time showing the kids how to properly jump through a sprinkler. Thanks everyone for making Elsa’s party super special! Share this...
Nicole and I just finished printing another wedding suite last weekend. This wedding stationery was made for Jess & Nils who are getting married this fall in Saint Paul, MN at the Germanic American Institute. Jess was looking for an invitation to reflect her and Nil’s love of reading and asked us to come up with something that was “nerdy, creative, and fun.” Nicole and I tried a few different designs but landed on this book plate inspired invitation. The wise old owl in the corner adds some whimsy and navy blue lends itself to a classic “bookish” look. Each invitation was hand screen printed on a luxe cream colored paper with grey, navy, and black ink and includes invitation, RSVP card, and printed RSVP response envelope. As always, drop us an email if you’re interested in chatting with us about your upcoming nuptials, we’d love to hear from you! Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

We’re happy to share with your our first wedding invitation suite! We can’t tell you how stoked we were to be apart of Breanna & Jeff’s future nuptials. These two are having a destination wedding on Coronado Beach in San Deigo and they requested that the destination be part of their wedding invitations. It was a lot of fun brainstorming all sorts of travel themed invitations with Nicole, we had all sorts of ideas; from maps, to vintage postcards, to travel ticket stubs, but in the end we landed on this image of San Diego. The grey landscape features silhouettes of sailboats in the foreground and the Carmel mountain range in the background with the cityscape smack dab in the middle. We followed Breanna’s color theme and printed the invitations in red and pewter grey ink. The end look is both modern with a vintage twist. For this wedding suite we printed Invitations with RSVP postcard. A set of “Thank You” cards is in the works, and will be soon to follow. If you or someone you know is interested in getting super cool, screenprinted, handmade wedding invitations don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d love to hear from you! Share this...
I am excited to share my latest adventure in Gocco printing. My dear old mom had back surgery last month and I knew it was going to be a hard and long recovery for her. For Christmas I made her this set of custom stationery so that she could keep up with correspondence while she healed. She’s always been known for being an avid gardener and I thought including her own little garden on the stationery would be fitting for her. I choose a robin’s egg blue note card as a background for this field of white blooms outlined and detailed with dark brown ink. I was able to repeat the design on this kraft paper envelope and include her name on the back of it for an even more custom look. This set of 50 should help her pass the days (and stay in touch) until she’s back on her feet. We recently added this custom stationery to our etsy store, and we can personalize it to fit you or a friends name. Here’s the link for more info. If you’d like us to custom design stationery for you (from scratch) please email us at contact@thehenhousepress.com Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

Another valentine was added to the shop today. This one is simple and sweet and inspired by the coolest of dudes, Bruce Springsteen (of course), and his 1980 jam “Crush on you” featuring the lyrics, “Ooh, Ooh, I’ve got a crush on you, tonight.” Does it get any more romantic than that? These VD cards were also created on a letterpress and are printed in hot fuschia ink. Notice the super-sweet, and owe so romatic heart over the “i”. Pick up one of these babies for your baby today!. Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

We did it, we got a new valentine added to our etsy shop before Valentine’s day. Way to go us guys (this is where I would insert a smiley winking face if I was they type of person that did that type of thing.) And guess what else?? We used a real letterpress to make these bad boys. I never told you about the time when Nicole and I took a letterpress printing class on my birthday in December. Now we know everything about letterpress printing (not really.) We do know a lot more than we used to and we are anxiously awaiting the day we get our Kelsey press up in running. Anyway, check out this totally adorable funny valentine. Pick one up today and give this funny valentine to your valentine. Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

Yes We’re so excited! Nicole (Colz) and I finished our first STD’s (Save the Date’s) last night at 1am after a five hour marathon of printing. Oh god my shoulders hurt, but it’s all worth it because making stuff is so fun and awesome! We hand gocco’d (screenprinted) 150 save the dates and envelopes featuring a marina full of sailboats. We are so proud of our little guys, that I don’t think we’ll ever forget our first STD. If I were to get married tomorrow I think I would pick this same color palette. Lemon yellow, turquoise and grey are pretty much the best color combo. I’ve been using these colors all over my house for months, they are my go-to-guys. Check out my kitchen as proof. So I can easily imagine turquoise b-maid dresses paired with a bouquet of yellow flowers. As a special treat, and since we couldn’t resist, we added boats and waves to the front of the envelopes as well. It’s basically the icing on the cake (no pun intended) and makes the whole thing look really special, or at least that’s what we thought after a few beers. And just cause we love these things so dang much here’s one last photo for good measure. Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

We’re so excited, we finally get to start working on the stationery for our first wedding! Here is one of the final ideas for Allison & Jamie’s save the dates (or as we like to say STD’s, oh man does that joke goes a long way.) Allison and Jamie are getting married next summer in beautiful Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. We experimented with a few different themes when it came to these STD’s and the bride and groom decided on this simple and elegant card with yellow boats. We’d love to take credit for choosing the colors but this was all Allison & Jamie. We are so amped about these STD’s that we can barely wait to start printing them. Our screens and ink should be arriving in the mail any day now and then we are going to go to town on these babies! Please don’t hesitate if you, or someone you know would be interested in talking to us about their wedding plans. Email us HERE! We love doing this and get a total kick our of it. www.thehenhousepress.com Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter

Here is my first stab at Gocco printing. I think I was pretty successful, I’m happy with the results. I only wish it didn’t cost so much… or I would do it all the time, I would imagine that each of these cards with postage cost about 2 bucks a piece, argh blerg. I can see how people get addicted to this stuff though. It’s fun and pretty easy, and I didn’t even make a mess. Guess what? I just bought one of those awesome corner rounder thing dealies. Now everything in my house will have a nice rounded edge on it. I think I’m gonna send this card out with a red envelope and a liner printed with vintagesque green christmas trees. I found both envelopes and liner atpaper source. I wish that I could have my dining room table covered in this type of awesomness all the time. Share this... Facebook Pinterest Twitter
