Your fence looks so good.
I will make my own, seeing yours gives me ideas on layout of different width of wood sections. Mine is all from pallet wood.
When treating wood I will be careful not to damage plants.

Hi, First, I love your blog and look at it all the time. I have gotten so many inspirations.
We (my husband and I) are building your fence around our property and are loving it. I do have a couple of questions.
1. Did you add 2 x 4’s to the back side to the fence (inside not street side) at the bottom and at the top below the cap?
2. We are using pressure treated lumber instead of cedar. How long did you wait to stain? It’s October here in Missouri and we are wondering if we can wait til spring to stain or if we should try and do it before winter.

Hi, really hoping you can help and praying for a fairly quick answer so I can start my fence. In regards to your fence which looks to have around 4ft sections, are they actually 4 feet between the posts? Also what are the 3 slat sizes please? I say 3 as there seems to be a random one that is different to the rest. Also how big is the gap between each slat as I was thinking of going with either 1/4 or 1/2 inch as dont want them too large. Thank you.

I’m looking to build a similar style of fence and I was curious as to the framing for your fence. Is the top rail made of cedar 2 x 4s sistered together? Are there any screws involved or is it all nails? Did they end up routing a channel in each post or are the slats held in place by the furring strips?

Finally, are your posts PT pine or are they cedar as well?

Sorry for all of the questions! The fence looks incredible and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your blog.

That fence is so awesome, my mother in law wants me to copy it for her.
She appreciates the varying widths as well as, what appears to be, varying space between the planks. Did you plan those or were they left up to the builder?

In reply to Carolyn. Hey Carolyn, It is hard to keep up with old post comments. The fence is great! No issues, no warping, no board replacement. I just re-stain it every once in awhile because I'm obsessive.

I see you haven’t responded to previous comments, but I was wondering is you could update us on your fence. Have you had any issues with boards warping over time? Have you needed to restain the fence? 4 years later and your fence is still a favourite of mine!

Late to this… but have had your blog bookmarked for a long time. Love so many projects in here. I had a Japanese maple growing up in my childhood home in California and have been dying to have one in my garden in MN. I think that is one I spotted in your yard. Do you have any special care tips for it? I thought they weren’t hardy enough except for in protected pots in MN.

I am wondering how you feel now, that the fence has been in for 1.5 years, about the height difference on the two sides. Is it awkward at all? We are in a similar situation with neighbors – but our pleasant neighbor is likely to be listing in the next year or so…. I am trying to decide if I should go 6 ft all around.

The fence looks great. It’s so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel on a loooong project.
I can’t imagine laying all the bricks that line your beds. That seems like it would be brutal and difficult to get right (it looks great, too)
