Glued on to the tile??? WTF previous homeowners? Let's make things as absolutely hazardous as possible. Your new rug covers the porch carpet perfectly and looks great. At this point, you might as well save the money for some other project!

It makes me very happy to have the original floor restored. I'm going to stain it so I can see the natural wood grain. I just need to psych myself up for it. Sanding, staining, and sealing are my least favorite to-dos.

Hey Alyssa, Good suggestion. I'll for sure keep Ikea options in mind, and I will check out that decking option the next time I'm at Ikea. I bet I could lay it right on top of the carpet. The thing about the tile underneath that scares me is that it's really brittle and it's glued to the carpet, so I feel like I would be releasing a lot of bad stuff if I messed with it.

Paint stripper is tricky stuff, but I bet your porch looks beautiful now. Are you staining it this summer, or painting it again? Yay to finished basements!

This looks so great. I can't wait to see it come to life. I love your blog and your aesthetic!
Have you thought about using these ikea decking things for your porch floor http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90234226/? maybe lay some cheap cut-to-size-linoleum over the asbestos tile, then lay these on top? I wish I would've known about this decking flooring before I got the genius idea to strip the paint off our porch. Two years ago, I made the mistake of dumping paint stripper all over our painted porch floor thinking it'd be an easy job. Most of it dried on, and then it occurred to me it might be lead. Long story short, I had to pay for abatement of the nasty paint stripper lead paint mess. I'm finally going to finish it this year.

P.s. We're in a 1920s bungalow in Longfellow and just finished our basement, too! You're my role model for what's possible even with two little boys!
