Make this Starburst Trellis

I’ve got instructions to share today, so that you can recreate a starburst trellis for your garden, garage or side of your house! I had always known that I wanted to run planter boxes along the base of the garage, and after mulling it over it occurred to me that adding a very large trellis might be the exact thing we needed to minimize that eye sore of a garage! Glitter Pinecone Ornaments

After helping my mom hang decorations on her Christmas tree last weekend, I realized how almost every year growing up we made a handmade ornament, whether it were at school, Sunday school, or at home with Mom. Inspired by a sparkly pinecone I created as a little runt, I made ...
FRIEND FEAST 2011

Friend Feast 2011

We made it to our 7th annual Friend Feast! If anything, we've proved that even though we're all a little older, we still know how to shot gun beers.

Here's to another good year of hanging with friends and family ...

Around The House

You're going to have to get used to more posts like this, I just can't help myself with this new camera.  Everything looks so beautiful now, I can't even imagine what things are gonna look like once I get my tripod back (50's, you heard me) and get into manual ...
I Made it to 30!

I Made it to 30!

I celebrated my 30th bday over the weekend!  My friends took me out to an amazing dinner at a neighborhood restaurant.  Like any good 30th birthday, it involved lots of champagne and cocktails as well as some delicious Italian food.  My folks had the kids and we had an empty ...

Hallowed Hush: 3 Ways

I was spending some time updating my backup hard drive the other day (3 years in the making) when I came across some real estate photos of our old loft we used to own when we were crazy enough to live in Saint Paul (sorry saint paul). It inspired me ...

Something Weird Is Happening

Okay, I don't know if it's cause it's my 30th birthday or it's just a strange bit of luck but I can't stop winning things. I mean it's a nice problem to have but I am worried that it's too much of a good thing. In the last 3 weeks ...

Chugging Along.

So, I guess this dewallpaper/rewallpaper/paint the music room project was a little bit bigger that I expected it would be, but NO regrets. It's not like I could've lived with the room the way it was forever, that 80's country wallpaper had to go! Things are coming a long though, ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
