Cabin Update : The Kitchen

Hello, budz! It’s so weird writing posts without having the luxury of easily photographing the subject. We have such limited time at the cabin, that when I’m there, project time is strictly for projects and chill time is strictly for chilling. Get it? I bring you my best stab at on-the-fly documentation! I took the photos for this post within a matter of minutes while the fam was waiting for READ MORE

49 Days ‘Till Spring

This is what it looks like outside of our house, we can't even stand it anymore. This is the worst part of winter, the part where every day seems like 10 days, and even though warmer weather is right around the corner it might as well be November.

Being Pregnant makes Everything Hard

I'm a Sewing Fool.

I’m a Sewing Fool.

Woah, I'm surprising myself here. I followed a pattern and I successfully sewed a lap top sleeve for my computer. So here's the evidence, and I'm so proud. I was inspired after seeing this tutorial on The Cottage Home blog. If you haven't seen this blog, and you like sewing ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
