Our Kids Are World Travelers Now!

This fall we embarked on our first international trip as a family. Jeff, myself and our two boys, Finn (11) and Gus (8) took two weeks and headed east to visit London UK, Moneglia Italy and Paris France. Traveling has always been important to Jeff and I and we've done a fair bit ourselves. It's always been a goal of ours to take our kids on at least one international family vacation before they get too old. The boys have done enough traveling in their short lives that they know what's expected of them. They understand that there's almost always something that goes wrong or is unexpected and you "have to be flexible!" They know they have to carry their own bags and help to be more responsible (than they normally are) for their own stuff, and they understand that traveling takes time. READ MORE

Drip Irrigation & Smart Watering

I had a problem. I wanted to spend huge chunks of time at this cabin this summer, but I also wanted not kill my window boxes and lawn due to lack of watering. What's a girl to do? A few years back I had set up a timer to our spigot. The timer was capable of having two different zones, so I ran a hose to the front and back yard and had set the timer to water daily for 10 minutes early in the morning. It worked, sorta. I mean, who doesn't like to water their yard when it's raining? READ MORE

Outside At the Cabin

Oh woah, it’s nearly August already? I forget that having two kids with July birthday’s really makes the month fly by. I’ve been working on a lot of little things this summer, each of them taking up a day here and there, sometimes it’s hard to tell if I’m really making progress at all. I was really hoping by now that I’d be able to share photos of the new exterior paint on the cabin. It’s been a bummer that it hasn’t gotten done yet. I had high hopes that I would get time to enjoy the cabin’s new look the majority of the summer... READ MORE

Ooooh, I’m so excited to share with you guys so many outdoor spaces at the cabin this year! To bring you up to speed, we purchased our Northwoods Wisconsin (aka West Wisco) cabin nearly two years ago. We’ve done a lot of improvements to the interior spaces since moving in August of 2017, and the outdoor spaces were left by the wayside. That period of neglect is over, people! We have so much improving happening in our exterior hang spaces this summer, specifically expanding our lake dock, landscaping and gardening, exterior painting, staining the deck and making the most of our deck views. One of the best spaces of the entire cabin is on our deck overlooking our lake. We have the luxury of being very close to the water since our cab was built over 50 years ago, due to changing building codes it would be impossible to build this close to the water in 2019. Because of our proximity, we have views of our lake from nearly every window and the best is right off our deck. READ MORE
