Deuce Cities Henhouse

Boy, oh Boy!

Yep, that’s right: we’re gonna have 2 BOYS in this house soon. It took a few days to get my head wrapped around the idea of having two sons in my life. I really had a feeling that this one was going to be a girl, so I was a little disappointed when we found out it wasn’t. But as the days go on, I get more and more amped about the idea of having another guy in my life. I’m looking forward to all of the adventures we’re going to have. Finn and I have so many already; I can’t imagine the fun of doubling that up.

I’ve been antsy to get started on a baby project. I felt like everything was hinging on the outcome of girl or boy. Now that we know what we’re getting into we’ve been able to start preparing for this new dude. Last weekend we conquered the first project on a list of many, we painted the 3rd upstairs bedroom from mustardy tan, to a soft light grey. What a difference a coat of paint makes, as you can see below.

Baby #2's Room Before Baby #2's Room (work in progress)
Don’t mind all the junk in that first photo; we’ve been using this room as a storage closet for old-baby-gear ever since we moved in. We always planned on having another kid and were saving this “junk room” for the day we’d have a new babe in our life. Now we have to go through the daunting task of sorting through piles of old onesies and trying to repair baby swings with missing pieces.

Cleaning messy spaces aside, we were able to get almost all of the painting done. We still have to patch some holes in the ceiling and repaint it white but we’re getting there. We didn’t stop with just paint though. We were also able to get Finn’s grey Oeuf crib set up and it looks great next to the grey walls. And no, this room was not the location of a domestic crime scene—that blue tape on the floor outlines the homes of a new dresser and bookshelf/window bench. Did you notice the new light fixture? Jeff was a pretty handy dude too, and installed this new pendant lamp from Ikea almost entirely by himself. We’re becoming pretty nimble little home owners ’round these parts.

Baby #2's Room (work in progress)
And here is a hint of what this room could be. Light grey walls, a dark grey crib, white linens and furniture and pops of yellow all around the room. I can’t wait to make this little space into a home for my new baby boy.

I have to comment…I started following your blog when Finn's nursery was on Ohdeedoh, partly because I was strongly considering naming my son Finn at the time. And we're also in Minneapolis. Then I see that your husband's name is Jeff, as is mine. And I love your decorating style. So…if you're busy doing the nursery, etc. I can help you with a name for your boy #2- Tate (he's my #1 and Finn is my #2) because apparently we have similar taste. :) I felt about the same upon learning that our second would be a boy, then got excited too. It's kind of fun to be the only girly one in the house.

Congrats on boy number two! I too had to take a few days to get used to the idea of so many boys and so few girls in my house but it has been wonderful. Boys are super fun and having a brother is a very special thing. The room is looking great!

Yea, boys! I love how the room (and your house) is coming together!

    Kara,
First of all, Finn's rule! Thanks so much for your compliments and your name suggestions. Good boy names seem to be few and far between and I need all the help I can get. So far I've been stuck on all these very German sounding names, it's kind of like I'm turning into my grandparents :)

    Erika,
I keep thinking about your boys when I imagine having two. From what I've seen reading your blog they always seem to really enjoy having each other around, and I have the same hopes for Finn and his little brother.

    Heidi,
Thanks! Someday we will get it all done, and then, I will have to change it all again!
