Deuce Cities Henhouse

First of all, let me start this post off by saying that the enthusiasm I received from the last post is just the right sort of positive energy I needed, thank you so mucho! Yes, I am the type of person that needs to know that what I am is producing matters, I apologize for my neediness in advance, but I hope that you know that it means so much to me that so many of you took the time to tell me so. I Can Sew.

I Can Sew.

I grabbed my sewing machine from my mom's house on Tuesday night after picking up Finn for the day, where it had been sitting for the last few years. I tried to use it one time like five years ago and became overwhelmed by the bobbin, so I gave up ...

Why Can’t I Ever Finish Anything???

These granny squares are destined to become a new pillow for ...

Finn’s New Red Rocker

Finn and I took a trip to the hardware store today for some packing tape and came home with this little chair. Finn is super stoked about it and keeps saying "rock, rock" in a sing-song voice while he chills in his chair. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for ...

Roonz’s Famous Ginger Cookies

It's a well know fact that Finn's Aunty Roonz is the greatest baker we know. No matter what sort of get together we're having she'll always be there with something sweet and delicious. One of our favorite creations are her Ginger Cookies, tasty and soft throughout. Roonz aka Erin let ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
