Deuce Cities Henhouse

Hi.

Hello, I suck at selfies, thus my weird pissed off looking floating head.

Just wanted to drop in and say “hey”. Life has been crazy lately, as it is this time of year. Last week was my 34th birthday and I spent all weekend celebrating, because I like birthdays. My brother and I have birthdays that are three days apart, so when our birthdays fall on a weekend there is lots of very important things to do. Between dinners out and cribbage tournaments, I got the privilege to watch my Finn slay his piano recital. I am beyond proud of hard work, determination and fearlessness. I am so thankful that I got to spend my entire weekend with family and friends, having lots of laughs and eating and drinking lots of delicious things.

We got a treadmill! The struggle to lose and maintain weight is real, my friends. I’ve been walking nearly every day for the two and a half years. I’ve made it through two Minnesota winters thus far, the first in the gym (which I hated) the second outside (which I hated) and this year we got a treadmill (which I love). I can walk when my kids are home, I don’t have to strategically plan around when they will be at school or get up super early before they wake up, I can just go! It’s been a game changer, and I love it.

I’ve been spending lots of time with my G-man. Jeff and I have a lot to think about going into this next year regarding Gus and his education, so we are making sure to do all of our homework (school puns!) so that we can make the right decision for him. I don’t need to get into all the details, but keeping him as my main focus during his hours home from school is number one. He is a pretty great dude and I love hanging with him.

I’ve got a few projects in the works (fingers crossed I’ll be posting both of them next week) but they haven’t gotten to the point where I feel like they are worthy of being shared with you guys just yet. I am very much looking forward to having a week or two off of the usual day-to-day stuff over the winter break. I can’t wait to have all of my boys home for a few weeks, and I intend to soak up every minute that I can with them.

Hope all you guys are doing well and enjoying the season!

Do you find just walking is effective for you in losing/maintaining weight? I always feel like I need to be doing more for it to be effective, and then that prevents me from doing anything at all. We have a treadmill but I can’t run (for various reasons) and I’ve been thinking maybe I’ll just walk on it this winter?

Hey-a. Well, I think a majority of the battle is deciding that you are going to be committed to a plan. For me, I walk a 14 minute mile (which is fairly fast), I pump my fists while I do it and lift weights for the first 25 minutes – I workout for 45 minutes seven days a week. I’m sure you could get the same sort of workout much faster by running, but I don’t like running, so I walk – sounds like you are in a similar boat. No matter what, I know that I am burning about 400 calories a day that I wouldn’t have otherwise, and those calories add up. You’ve got the treadmill – go for it!

Your selfie is so Kathleen Hanna – which hopefully you take as the best compliment ever because I certainly mean it that way. Happy holidays to you!

What?? Best compliment! I’ve heard that once or twice before, but I don’t get tired of it. Thanks! Happy holidays to you too!

I’m not a gym fan either, and have been struggling figuring out a humane way to work out that isn’t too much hassle. Discovered Fitness Blender about a month ago and am in the middle of their Low impact 4 week programme. Amazing, and pretty easy to squeeze in 30mins of workout. AND they are super body positive which is important to me. Anyhoodle – just a little tip :) https://www.fitnessblender.com/

Good to know! I might have to check that out later this winter – I know that I will eventually get tired of the monotony and I might need a change to the routine. Thanks!

We’re all different! I love the gym, they have saunas there. If you stay in the sauna, then jump into the steam room, then spend some time in the hot tub and maybe the cold pool, it’s almost as good as working out!

    Babe City.

I’m a bit late to the party here, but hopefully you’ll see this– what kind of treadmill did you get, if you don’t mind my asking? I walk regularly for exercise too, and now that the weather’s finally getting cold, I’ve been debating about buying a treadmill. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Hey Kristi! I just needed something basic – it inclines, it goes fast, it’s substantial without being overwhelming and it cost around $1000. Here’s the link for the ‘mill – good luck!

        Awesomesauce, thanks!

I love it. Walking has to be the easiest way to keep active. It’s my go to. Hang in there. Ps that’s so cool your kid plays piano. Mine too!!
