Cabin Update : Bunk Room

This post is in partnership with Beddy's Hey Guyses! Hope all is well in the new year! Things are starting off with a bang around here, and I'm ready to hit the ground running! I'll fill you in on my next post, but I'm ready to get back at a more reg blogging schedule. Cleaning up the Coffee Zone

So I have a list about a mile long (not kidding) of all the things I need to get done around the house before the baby comes. One of them being to organize and clean up the kitchen. I took on a small area of the kitchen this weekend and ...
Monkey Love

Monkey Love

I wanted to take a sec and write a quick little post about our love a stuffed animal called "Monkey." On Finn's 1st birthday (almost 2 years ago) his Aunty Colz gave him a blue & brown striped sock monkey that she had picked up for him on Etsy. We ...

Curtain/Nursery Progress Update

I am so proud of these curtains! I love them, and I was able to sew them with minimal swears and mistakes. I think I am getting better at this sewing thing. They hang perfectly, are the perfect length, the patterns match up and they are lined.

Here's a close up ...

Finn’s Digs

I was so excited on Monday when I noticed Finn's room had been featured in an article on Ohdeedoh. I had just posted some photos on Flickr of his room a month-or-so ago after a cleaning day with the intentions of blogging it in the near future, and I guess ...
Yellow Fever

Yellow Fever

Slowly but surely, I will have this "new kid's room" thing figured out. First of all whoever decided that it should be near impossible to photograph yellow on grey? I don't know where my skills are lacking, but I'm just not able to get this image to be true. Anyhow, ...

Plants on the Brain (Sung to the tune of Pants on the Ground)

Finn and I have recently turned the baby's nursery into a fully functioning plant nursery. The nursery is the sunniest room in the house and since it's not officially inhabited by baby #2, what the hay, right? We really went to town at our last trip to the flower store, ...

HBD Dad!

Today's my dad's birthday, we celebrated yesterday with steak dinner, baked potatoes, artichoke salad and chocolate cake (or as Finn would say, "black cake".)

Dad says it never snows after his birthday, let's hope that's true ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
