Cabin Ideas : The Bunkroom

Happy Holidays, Team! So glad I was able to click “Publish” on this. I have at least three different posts in the works and I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on a single one of ’em. I think part of the reason for my “writer’s block” is that my brain is overwhelmed with ideas, I’ve found it hard to focus. Thankfully (aren’t you just soooo thankful?), I was able to sit down READ MORE

Dining Room Buffet Makeover, 100% Free!

I've been meaning to organize the built-in buffet cabinet in our dining room for some time, it's been set up the same way ever since we moved in, straight from the moving boxes and into the buffet. It's seems like I should've done this a long time ago since ...
The Best way to Rock??

The Best way to Rock??

I'm trying to be as economical as possible when it comes to planning this nursery. With unpaid maternity leave to look forward to, we have to pinch every penny for the next 18 weeks. That being said, I was trying to figure out the best way to get a cool ...
Boy, oh Boy!

Boy, oh Boy!

Yep, that's right: we're gonna have 2 BOYS in this house soon. It took a few days to get my head wrapped around the idea of having two sons in my life. I really had a feeling that this one was going to be a girl, so I was a ...
Making the most out of what I've got.

Making the most out of what I’ve got.

Well I think I'm starting to get a little energy back in these bones. For a good 2 hours this weekend I was inspired to clean, really good and it felt awesome. Cleaning wasn't the only bug in my bones, after spending so much time in my room over the ...
A Quilt for Baby #2

A Quilt for Baby #2

I got to spend some time with my grandma this weekend, she's been quilting for 20 years and got me started on my first quilting project, a baby quilt for #2. I thought I'd be a little more agile with all of the measuring and cutting equipment, but it did ...

I am excited to share my latest adventure in Gocco printing. My dear old mom had back surgery last month and I knew it was going to be a hard and long recovery for her. For Christmas I made her this set of custom stationery so that she could keep ...
What's it Gonna Be?

What’s it Gonna Be?

Welcome to my latest project: planning this new kid’s future nursery! Heck yes. Here's how the story goes: When Finn was in my stomach we were in the midst of selling a loft-style condo in Saint Paul with no rooms (except for the bathroom), which in turn allowed for NO ...
Another Valentine

Another Valentine

Another valentine was added to the shop today. This one is simple and sweet and inspired by the coolest of dudes, Bruce Springsteen (of course), and his 1980 jam "Crush on you" featuring the lyrics, "Ooh, Ooh, I've got a crush on you, tonight." Does it get any more romantic ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
