Thinking About : My Living Room

Living Room Style Board
Hey Guys, I’m still obsessing over the final plans for the living room. If you’ve been reading along you know that I’ve been compiling style boards for potential sofa, rug, and chair candidates as we’re in the market for some new living room pieces. I’ve realized that there are like a million combinations of furniture pieces that could work together for our living room. This of course is driving me insane, and for my own mind-processing-powers, I decided to lay it all out there in one nice animated gif. It’s a weird way to solve a problem, I know. BUT, doing this I discovered that my favorite chair, sofa and rug combination made themselves quickly apparent. So it worked!

I still haven’t narrowed it down to “I know exactly what I want” but I have a really good idea of what I am looking for. For example, I realized that I really like that Stockholm rug, and it works as an inexpensive stop-gap option from now until when the kids are older. When that day comes along we might be able to get a way with a light colored rug like the Souk (let’s hope). I totally love the lighter colored furniture, like LOVE-LOVE it, and I’m going to try my hardest to find a fabric that is stain resistant. Maybe we won’t be getting the white chair, but the light gray sofa would be perfect. We’ll see if there is a fabric that will fit the bill when we start testing out furniture in the coming weekend R&B trips.

Of course, on the bottom right of my cool gif above you can see the static fixtures to the room; the teal paint color, a plant or two, my new Martini Side Table from West Elm, the tiny but cool coral lamp I got on Etsy, and an assortment of black and white and colored pillows (these are all from the Fine Little Day Shop).

I think my ultimate favorite combo from above is the gray Reese Sofa, white Andre Chair, and Souk Rug, but obviously that is impractical with the kids. Considering something like the Gray Reese Sofa, Blue Jasper Chair and Stockholm Rug would be a good alternative. I also really like that Andre Sofa with the buttons on the back. What’s your favorite combo? I’ve laid it all out below, because I am crazy and sometimes it’s easier for me to think about furniture in charts and grids, duh.

I’m getting so insanely excited to see these in person soon!

I have it all laid out and broken down above, you can rollover any of the images to see what furniture was used in that specific combo. Below I have it all laid out by furniture piece; Sofa, Chair, Rug.

Have you checked out Gus*Modern sofas yet? They’re beautiful, comfortable, environmentally friendly and made entirely in Canada! There’s a store called Roam that sells Gus in Minneapolis. I like the Stockholm rug and the blue chair would look amazeballz with your new wall colour!

      Hey Jessica,

I have heard of Gus Modern before, but I never even considered looking at it when I was thinking of Sofa’s and Arm Chairs. Something in my head just goes straight to “Room & Board” because I liked our old sofa so much. That “thatcher” sofa from G.M. is pretty awesome, isn’t it? I’m gonna go to Roam and look at some of these babies too, once we start finally deciding.

      Thanks for the link!

The Thatcher sofa is sexy as hell!

This is simultaneously cracking me up and amazing me at the same time!

      Too much crazy for ya?

      • Cam February 15, 2013

        Never!

I guess i didn’t have to write “simultaneously” and “at the same”…:)

Andre Sofa, Blue Jasper Chair and Stockholm Rug!!

Valerie, I was totally sold on the Reese Sofa until I started thinking about the Andre, the more I see it the more I like it. I can’t wait to go see all sofas in person. We’ve got a day date 3 weekends from now and we’re going shopping. I’m gonna test out all the sofas ever, it’ll be great!

I do like the Stockholm and would consider it myself if I could get the hubs on board (I can’t), but have you seen the Souk in person? It’s not white/white and I feel like it will hide more than you would think. At least that is what I am telling myself. Because I want it. Along with my light Jasper. And my West Elm side table. Pretty much you pulled this post from my head and I love it all.

Don’t tempt me Jess! I’ve finally started to come to terms with the fact that the Souk is too light and I should choose something else. I have not seen it in person and I will go do that soon before I make final final decisions.

Do you have the Martini side table yet, I totally love it, and I think it’s on sale for the next week or two. You should check it out.

Hi! Just found your blog through Pinterest and love it! We have very similar styles, except I painted my dining room teal (Galapagos Turquoise!) and my living room gray. Looking at your house is like looking at my house in flip-flop! ☺ I agree with Valerie above – Andre, Japer and Stockholm! (although all of the options look great!) I have the Ikea Karlstad in gray right now but the Andre and Reese are both on my *someday* lists!

Kristen! Glad you found me :)
I bet you love the Galapagos Turquoise in your Dining Room, tell me, do you have white molding and trim?

I really thought the GT was what I was gonna choose for the living room, but it made my woodwork all redish, and I didn’t like that.

Hope to see you around the blog!

I like ALL the combos! It’s too hard to pick just one. For what it’s worth, we have the Andre chair—not in white, but in tan. It is SUPER comfy and roomy enough for lots of adult + kid book reading times. It’s almost like a li’l loveseat for families. We’ve had it for several years and it has withstood everything the kids have dished out, including a giant red wine spill, which cleaned up completely with just water and a clean towel. (Er, that MIGHT have been me who spilled the red wine…) The only reason I’ve fallen out of love with ours is that the cat has decided it makes a nice scratching post, d’oh.

Oh, good to hear about the andre chair and the fabric. I bet it will be coming home with us one way or another, either as a chair or sofa. Do you remember what type of fabric you got it in? I’d be so curious to know. How about the buttons, are they still all intact?

Dang those cats!!! Mine don’t scratch, they just barf all over every thing! So annoying.
