Of course, some of that slowness is by necessity, renovating a small cabin kitchen when you leave 120 miles away isn’t going to happen over night. When I get presented with a design problem like our kitchen cabin, my first instinct is to make the most trying to maximize design on a budget... READ MORE

Getting Too Big!

Oh how time flies! My little big guy Finn is on his way to his first week of pre-school. He's out at Grandma & Grandpa's house (aka Grammy camp) and is going off to school every morning. He's more than thrilled about it. I'm so proud that he's approaching life ...

Blah-gging

Sometimes I have a love/hate affair with blogging. I usually love it. I love preparing and planning tinkering with code and taking photographs and editing them. Lately I have started to despise blogging. I put a lot of stresses on myself that shouldn't be there. It’s become less about the ...

Another Post about Door Knobs!

You all know that I've cleaned up the hardware on the doors in our bedroom throughout the spring. They look amazing and I love them but I still had one nagging problem, the main door set didn't close/latch properly. It also didn't have a lock on it, and certain bedrooms ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
