Cabin Bathrooms – A Plan

Hello my friends! I didn't mean for my absence to be so long, but the summer just got away from me! Things have finally started to settle down and we are having some chill time. Chill time for me usually comes with some sort of project, because I like projects and they make me feel good. I call it chill time because I can have a glass of champ while I do it and I don't have to drive kids anywhere. We're spending the next few weeks off and on at the cabin. This is our first time actually having an extended stay here, and I'm really excited to experience what it's like to wake up everyday with a lake out our front door. That being said, there are lots of little projects that need to be done at the cabin... READ MORE

Sunburst Afghan Remix

Sunburst Afghan Remix

So, I couldn't resist making Beak & Cam's baby an afghan, just like the sunburst blanket I made for Elsa when she was borned. Believe me, I tried to resist, I knew it was going to take a lot of time and I probably should've started back in the cold ...
New Future Projects

New Future Projects

I couldn't resist buying 6 of these knobs when I saw they were on sale (already sold out) last week at Anthropologie. I've been putting together ideas for an easy bathroom update in my head, and these were the centerpiece. I had planned on using them on the vanity as ...

Etsy Finds

Hey-O Everybody! I'm changing Etsy Finds up a little this week. First of all, I'm stepping out side of my normal vintage zone and making this 'finds' open to the whole world of Etsy. Secondly, you should note that each item isn't less than $75, the whole GD shower is, ...

Beak & Cam = BABY (Part 2)

Hey Guys! Remember back in March when I posted about helping my friends Beak & Cam get the nursery together for their soon to be arriving baby girl? Well, we're still at it. Cam and Erin (aka Roonz, aka Roonstuff) and myself got together last night and whipped this room ...
Block it To Me

Block it To Me

All aboard the color blocking train! Yeah, I just did that. I totally couldn't help picking up that small jar of pink fluorescent paint last week at the hardware store. I've been on a total pink and black and white kick ever since I made Cam's shower invitations in April ...

Timber

Obviously when I dreamt about cutting down the tree on the side of our house on Friday night, that meant that Saturday morning I had to get up, go to the hardware store, get a saw, come home and start sawing. Obviously. I've had beef with this crooked tree for ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
